Mild Thumping At Idle

I seem to have developed a problem that I can't find a good solution for. I have a 2000 with 43K miles. Three months ago I developed what can only be described as a "missing" sensation, similar to a fouled spark plug, bad plug wire, etc. I've had the transmission checked and the engine checked on a computer twice by the local dealer and "performance" specialist. No one can find a problem; no codes. I seem to be the only one that can feel it. The "washboard" roads around here are not the best for detecting this problem, but when I get on a smooth stretch of highway and my speed levels out (say 45 mph), the "missing" is definately there, however subtle it may be. It is a little rough when idling, but not that bad or even real noticable. I've also changed the fuel filter and had the lift pump checked. Oh, by the way, just days before the "miss" became noticable, I had a BD PNP installed. I hope it is only a coincidence. I've had the box checked and even reprogrammed. No help there, it still does the same thing, to a somewhat lesser degree I think, when the box is unplugged. Any ideas? Has any one had this problem or know of a solution? Could it be a fouled injector, bad sensor, etc. ? HELP!!!

I've had a few like this roll through the shop before, and most of the time it turns out to be one of two things...

Bad fuel pressure...

And/or

Failed injection pump.

So get your fuel pressure checked, and make sure the test is done while driving. A simple "high idle" test is worthless.

Keep us posted. :D

I had a "miss" problem and I have the Edge-Comp. I dabbed a little conductive grease on all my connections ( map sensor, pump wire and such) it worked well for me :D no more miss. You can try this fix it only takes 15 minutes and around 3 bucks.

I also have the miss which is most noteable at idle. It only happens when I have been running at steady speads and come up to a stop light/ sign. The idle will be fine as long as I am rolling but the engine will begin to stumble when I come to a complete stop ( 5 speed). I can coast 1/4 mile and it will idle fine and then the RPMs will fall and the miss will begin only at a complete stop?????? I was talked to the truck shop foerman at my dealer last week and he said they had one come in that had a shelled engine at 108K that had been experincing a miss for 20K. They had taken it to another dealer who had missed diagnosed it as a bad lift pump and then a bad injector pump and neither had fixed it. It turned out to be a bad injector that had washed down # 6 and in turn the piston seized and the motor shelled. DC would not help with warranty on the engine!!! I have an oil sample sent off now to rule out fuel dilution. My miss is either gone on not noticable with the EZ off. I talked with ADT and they said they would send me another box, however I wanted to rule out things on my end.
