I want to put a jacobs 4 inch in line brake on my truck. I have the turbo mounted brake and Im going with twins and want to stay with the jacobs name. Does any one have a part # FOR TJUST THE BRAKE??? or who should I talke to to get one?

thanks

I think BD makes an inline e-brake, but I like my Jacobs a lot :)

For the sake of conversation, why do you ask?

I've been looking at turbo upgrades, but am quite limited by my desire to keep my elbow-mounted Jacobs e-brake. That's a cost consideration, besides the fact that I don't want to be without an exhaust brake.

Now if I could get some kind of 4" elbow retrofit to allow for the HX-40 size downpipe, my turbo options would be wide open. Keeping the stock-size elbow is truly a limiting factor. After some long talks with Shane at Industrial Injection, I think the hybrid route is best, given my existing e-brake requirement and modest HP ambition.

right now i have a PDR hx40 with a 14cm hx35 exhaust housing im planing on going to twins because the hx35/40 will not keep me cool enought when towing in the mountains

Actually, from my emails to Jacobs, we can just swap on the newer 4" turbo mounted ebrake as long as we have the larger exhaust housing like the 2004. 5 and newer have.

I started looking into this when I looked at the EB on my 2005, which is a Jacobs, and is 4".

So, it seems that we just need to get the brake itself from a 2004. 5/newer setup and put it on a larger turbo.

This lets us keep a turbo mounted brake, and have the 4" exhaust.

It doesn't help with the twin turbo issues though.

Btw, the only reason I haven't done this swap yet is the $ involved with buying a new turbo AND the brake itself (you don't need to buy all the extra stuff, just the eblow/brake).

Direct from Jacobs, ""The 2004. 5- 2006 exhaust brake assembly, alone, is available Through either Dodge, p/n 05139837AA, or Cummins, p/n 4089598. "".

I haven't even bothered to call for prices yet, as I can't afford the new turbo yet (thanks to the cost of my new HRVP44 ;) ).

KKunz, I forgot, you can email Jacobs for the part numbers you want. They are quite helpful and pretty fast to respond (at least they were for me).

They do have a nice 4" inline brake, but it isn't listed under the Dodge application. You have to look under medium duty B5. 9

And I think they will work with your current setup, just add more vacuum line and put inline like any other inline brake.

Froadin,

Thanks for the tip on the Jacobs 4" elbow. Of course modding the brake and getting a better turbo about doubles the cost over just a hybrid. But good stuff is a better value, even at a higher initial price.

KKunz,

Can you fill in your profile? My main aim is decreasing EGT while towing. I really have enough power to tow, I just have to throttle back to keep the exhaust temp in the green. Of course, I wouldn't mind being able to run a set of F1 Mach 4's ;)

Boondocker, Yeah, I agree that you get what you pay for.

I just need to figure out what I NEED to pay for!

If the hybrid would work for me, I would spend my money there.

But I would hate to spend the money, and still not have the effect I am after.

Like you, I am after lower EGTs while towing. I am simply after USABLE power.

Of course my HPVP44 changes my equation, and it makes it much harder for me to find out an answer without having to swap around turbos.

Just look at what is available for the 2004. 5 and newer trucks.

I am pretty sure all of those down pipes will work, but I didn't look into that closely.
