I finally had my 98 Quad cab, 12V truck bombed. Last Tuesday, I arrived at ‘Ted Jannettys Racing’ in Connecticut to get the work done. Ted installed his Stage 2 performance package (torque plate, 4 inch exhaust, injectors, and pyro/boost gauges) and the ‘Piers’ BD governor springs (I had previously had a Pro-Torque converter and modified valve body installed). The shop is very clean and well stocked and Ted (and his senior mechanic Frank) are a wealth of knowledge. He’s very fussy with making sure that everything is exactly right before it leaves and personally performs all of the road tests and final adjustments.
Now for the performance. I hooked up to my 7000# travel trailer over the Labor day weekend and got to pull the same route through the mountains that I had pulled a month prior to the engine modifications. The change is unbelievable. I had been previously climbing the long steep hills (after converter mods but before the Stage 2 package) at 55-60 MPH while keeping my foot to the floor and unlocking the converter on each climb. With the Stage 2 kit installed I could easily run the same hills at 75-80 MPH without flooring the gas or unlocking the converter and while keeping the EGTs (pre turbo) at 1100 or less. Exhaust noise is not appreciably louder except at RPMs greater than 2300 after which some resonance occurs.
Thanks to Ted and his team for a nicely integrated and installed system.
