How dependable are the "AA" Lift Pumps

brakes pulling to the right!

Why is it that everybody I know with a power stroke has something negative to say about how noisy(?) my truck is? Seems to be the only thing they can complain about. Are they trying to rationalize their $35g mistake?:{

While filling up Friday, I was approached by a Ferd owner about the fuel mileage I was getting with my truck. I told him I got 16-20, just depending on how heavy a foot I have or if it's highway or city driving.

He grimaced and said he's only getting 13-15 out of his F-250. It has a 3. 7x rear end in it. I told him that while the stock F-250's pull better (IMO) than stock Cummins-powered trucks, the overall efficiency of the Cummins was superior, again IMO. He agreed and said he wished he'd gotten a Dodge.

Live and learn. Luckily I was edumacated (thanks to the TDR) about all this BEFORE I made a decision on which truck to buy.

Just for gits and shiggles, I "test drove" a F-350 Crew Cab long bed Auto 4x4. No offense to anyone, I wouldn't have that thing. It was fully loaded, leather and the whole bit. But compared to "Brandy" (my truck), it wouldn't get out of it's own way.

I like my truck more every time I get in it, just like I was told I would. After driving that Ford, then getting back in my truck, I couldn't get the silly grin off my face when I started it up and listened to that distinctive (and yes, LOUD) Cummins sound. You have GOT to love it! I really don't like the way Powerstrokes sound. And Duramax? Is that really a diesel? Dang, it sounds like a carb'ed 454.

Noisy...

... just straight pipe it or put on stacks. When they complain about the noise just rev. it up a little and say "WHAT" ;) ... . Doug

I just tell those people "With all those horses under my hood they have to make some noise". I like the noise, puts my daughter right to sleep, and she knows when Daddy is home.

Well, my buddy with a PSD claims that my Dodge is quieter inside than his new Expedition. I have been in his T-REX and have to agree. With the windows up the Dodge is quieter. TAKE THEM FOR A RIDE! SNOKING

Mileage

I few weeks back I was sitting idling in front of a gas station/convenience store waiting for my cousin to come out when a local shuttle service owner came up to my passenger winder and asked what kind of mileage I got. I told him I got about 18-21 or so and when he heard that he said he would never buy another PSD again.

Someone I know has a '99 F350 DRW 2-wheel drive. It rides pretty hard and I drove it once when it was fairly new. It was quite gutless. However a year later it had pepped up considerably. When new he usually got 12-14mpg mixed driving but that went up too.

Another thing I seriously disliked was the amount of engine noise in the rear seat (crew cab). While it wasn't bad in the front, it is quite a bit more pronounced in back. The sound is very tinny and seemed to resonate back there. After riding around town for an hour in his truck I was in misery!

Personally, sound is a huge part of what I love about cars/trucks/motorcycles/anything with an engine.

It's one of the reasons I went Dodge/Cummins rather than Ford/PowerStroke. I prefer Harley's to anything else partially due to their sound. Top fuel dragsters just make me weak in the knees :D:D:D

A disgustingly powerful engine == testoserone baby!!!!!!

Tom

I have to agree with Tom Golden. One of the high points of the Cummins is the "SOUND"!!! :D Some people will just never understand. I guess the sound of a real diesel has to be in your blood.

Another reason why I'm leary of the next generation. I know it's supposed to have many improvements over the current HD, but, IMO. they stripped the engine of it's trademark rattle (music)!

Noise is good !

this is my first diesel and likewise first Dodge truck. I drove both the FOUNDONROADDEAD and Chivy(Brain on drugs) - But I knew that the Dodge Turbo Diesel was the best - and I haven't been disappointed- Yeah it makes noise - but I like it - its the sound of power.

Wherever I go with this Big green thing - people come up and comment about it - ie beautiful truck and whats the mileage - when I tell them 18-21 they either smile or frown (if Ford or Chevy owner). after I bought this one the local F*** dealer called and asked If I was still in the market for a truck - Told him NOPE - bought one - When I said Dodge Diesel - his only comment was OH ! :)

Took a cruise through the parking lot at the local trap/skeet range with the wife after taking our dog to the lake for a swim.

I loved the way the folks all turn around and stare at the beautiful noise coming from the motor in my truck!

One old guy made a comment as I passed him "Rattle Trap. "

I had to laugh ! ! !

It's a shotgun range for God sakes! :p and this old man is complaining about noise?

I love pulling up to a stop sign and making others have to roll up thier windows. Puts a huge :D on my face!

When the friends ask "how come your truck makes so much noise?" I tell them "Thats what a real truck is supposed to sound like. "

I took the silencer ring out last week, boy talk about icing on the cake! Look at it this way, the noise keeps me healthy - can't go thru the drive-thru w/o turning it off. I go some wheres else or go home to my babes cookin'.

Friend (who talked me into a dodge) has a '91 with the Banks stinger exaust, THAT sounds really cool!!!

the other night I was sittin in the truck at idle in front of a pizza store. My brother had gone in to pick up a pizza. Anyways, there is this old lady sittin out front smoking while out the same time suckin on one of those portable oxygen bottles. So she runs up to me and starts yelling at me about how loud the truck was and all the "polluted air its putting out thats bad for her lungs"!!! I was flored! I could not believe this old lady sittin out there rotten out her own lungs yelling at me how about how much damage my truck was doing to her lungs. Just told her to get lost and rolled up the windows and cranked up the Willie Nelson. Man, there are some freaks out here in California.

I was in a parking garage in Brooklyn, NY, just idling while the attendant wrote up the parking slip, when a guy asked me if my truck made all that noise because I lost my muffler. I had to tell him it was a diesel... :p
