Chevy cummins conversions for sale

This is a project that I have had in mind for a long time I curently drive a 93 Grand Cherokee with 8 inches of long arm lift running 35 inch BFGs.

I am wondering why you went with that trany?

My plan is to run a GM 700 auto with a tranfer case from a S10.

You can get a stand alone kit for the 700 and the fit would be much better.

from what I can tell no trimming of the firewall or floor will be nessary.

Any way nice project now get back out in the garage and getr done!!

CMac,

If you are really going to actually commit to this kind of work, why would you use such a weak link like a GM 700 transmission? The first time that an inline diesel spools up any real torque into the torque converter, you'll be dropping a pan full of fragments and burned bands. The 700 r4's were barely decent transmission's with small blocks behind them in stock form.

A dodge 46rh or 47r will give you immeasurably better results for a lightduty transmission setup, even if rebuilt by your local soft kit shop etc.

Its just so hard to convince some folks the downfalls of most lightduty automatics behind a b series engine. It isn't anything specific to the cummins name, its just the torque rating of an inline diesel is far beyond what most slush boxes an take if they're not designed for specific RPM power ratings/shift points.

What are you doin for motor mounts ,those should work in a dakota /durango

youd think any how ,and for pan clearance ,any body try a marine or industral oil pan ?

I haven't started fabricating the engine mounts yet, but I plan on using the brackets/mounts that came with the engine/transmission assembly as it was originally used in the DHL/FedEx/potato chip truck.

There are two places where the engine mounts in its original application - up front by the balancer and then in the back on the SAE #3 bellhousing. The transmission will probably be OK just swinging in the breeze (that's the way medium/heavy duty trucks are... ), but I plan on putting some kind of mount under the Allison's extension housing.

Jeep Grand Cherokee + Cummins

I was at a wrecking yard a few days ago and looked at a durango that had no engine ,why not just use the 94 and newer 6bt mounts out of a gen2 truck

from what ive observed i think they will fit ine mounts ,any body try it before ????????????

I haven't seen or heard a durango converson but I know a couple of guys have done a 6bt and 4bt conversion on that year range dakota.

hey matt did you have to digg in the basement last week from those tornado warnings . . for sulk county?. . i tried to call but the phone my phone wasn't working well. any how any updates on the jeep, and little ones on the way?.

I got a '92 5spd w350 im building now with parts from my '89 . . talk to ya later

Sorry - no updates or recent photos on the project. I've been busy working on my house. Once the house is done, it'll be up for sale. Then I get to store the Jeep and all the parts somewhere so that I can put up a shop at the new place. :)

I've only had to go into the basement once this year. haha Sure had some very close calls this summer, though. We need to talk more often... despite being busy.

Cool! - Is the W350 a DRW? Hope the rust isn't too bad... that vintage truck seems to catch hell in New England.

EPA inspection laws

I was looking at a perkins 4cylinder out of a CAT forklift to go into my extended cab ranger 4x4. I called Air Nazis at the EPA and was given all kind of Ucant do its. Most importantly, my state inspectin guy here in NC says there is a law against putting a diesel eng in a gas vehicle or vice versa. Aside from ignoring these people and buying a fake sticker, is anyone faced with like problems? Do you retitle as a reconstructed vehicle? I think this Global warming is cooking some of their brains???????

Well, that's one of the biggest reasons I moved out of MA. Out there, there is so much red tape to cut through - it's utter BS. I've always wanted to do engine swap projects and it is almost impossible to get that sort of thing done out there without jumping through hoops.

Here in WI, there are only a few (1?) counties that do emissions testing and there are no safety inspections. Somehow, even without this sort of testing/inspections - you don't hear about an abnormally high amount of car wrecks or smog producing cars.

WI's mode of operation seems to be: If you leave people alone and let them take care of their own business, they'll do it on their own - rather than trying to skirt the system just to stick it to the man.

Part of the deal with Wi and MN (My theory at least) is... . Throw enough salt on the roads, the cars will rust out and dissappear. Those that are still around are taken care of, so emmissions and safety aren't as big of a concern.

Hey Matt

How's the Jeep project, we wanna see some new pics...

BTW I need to turn down the deal, I started to clean up my garage last week... :-laf

Cheers

Not much new in the wonderful world of this project... I've spent the better part of the last year remodeling my house to get it sold. Well, now it is sold and I'm really close to starting to build a garage/shop at the new house. Once the garage is up, I will actually have a place to work on the Jeep.

I did get a frame cut (from the firewall forward) from a '94 2500 (2wd, 12-valve truck) - with all the suspension goodies, brakes, steering, bearings, etc. back in late spring. One of the first major hurdles when I get back to working on this is to make up some kind of Frankenstein a-arm front suspension for the Jeep.

In the meantime, I've also had a lot of help researching the Allison PCM calibrations (Thanks, Al!!!) and I'm also looking into all the neat little things you can do with these common-rail engines to turn up the wick. :)

Beers,

Matt

So you are going to change the Jeep into a 2-wheel drive? Why did the Allison require any modifications? Didn't it come attached to that engine?

man buya tubing bender . . and do it up. . no 2wd. . thats a JEEP. . ha it will be really lame 2wd. . and you have the skills to keep it 4wd. . every month in 4wheel and off road or 4 wheeler. . there articles about front axle swaps and 2wd to 4wd etc etc. . the tech is there and the parts are available. . plus you have a unibody so you kinda feel trapped to that body, don't get creative man. . 2wd is lame. . if you do a 2wd . . might as well be a rat rod or a t bucket or something not a JEEP SUV. . do 4wd. .

I hope the pep talk helps ya. . argh hhaha
