Well it is finally coming. I just got a Jeep owners magazine (my fiancee has a Liberty) in the mail and on the first page they have an article about the new diesel Liberty. They say it will be out in the 2005 model. It doesn't say who makes the engine but it does say it will be a 2. 8 liter 4 cylinder with common rail injection. I know there were people interested in this so I though I'd put it on here for everyone.

HP/TQ numbers

From the Detroit Free Press and author Mark Phelan:

"The 2. 8-liter 4-cylinder diesel Liberty I drove may only produce 148 horsepower, but it packs 266 pound-feet of torque--"

Finally! Now when I see one on the dealers' lot, then I'll believe it! ;) Ought to be a neat little SUV. I'll bet it gets almost 40 MPG.

It looks like I need to find a Jeep dealer to get on the waiting list. I doubt they are going to stay on the lots long. That is worth waiting for, I haven't wanted to buy a car new in many years. I've got the desire back with that one for sure!!!

Now all I have to do is talk my fiance into trading her 03 in on an 05. Wonder what 400 hp & 800 tq would feel like in a Liberty?Oo.

Does it even have a turbo? I didn't see anyone say it did.

I wonder when they'll put one in a real Jeep? Not the IFS equipped yuppie wagon.

Why anti mercadez? Their hostile takeover of chrysler for one. Then they killed Plymouth. Now they're taking over the company I work for, Freightliner. Oh yeah, sterling( which is ford junk), and WesternStar( which were nice trucks), now owned by mercadeez. They're not an american company. Most of their parts are made in brazil. They took good Freightliner trucks and scraped them. Replacing them with disposable POS, Century Class, Columbia, Coronado, and M2. Their engineering is backwards from ours. One step forward and 2 steps back. Cheap, Plastic, JUNK. Their cars might be ok, but what they've done to these trucks is sad. Rant over.

If Chrysler weren't slipping down the toilet, MB would never have had the chance to buy them up. I remember the 80's and early 90's, Chrysler in all its entities was ready for a coffin as far as creativity and sales.

The Viper and Cummins ideas are about the only thing I have seen even slightly impressive in years. If they had half the initiative and management that MB has put into them, they could have competed with Chevy and Ford years ago.

Even now, they are known mostly for their minivans and cummins powered trucks, not a real extensive line of vehicles to brag about. :(

Something to note. MB overall quality is not as high as we all perceive. They have several lemons. Not one of their cars made the recommended list from consumer reports. Public perception has them as being much more reliable than they really are.

Now this rumor of a possible 6 speed auto and Im certain they would try to mate a mb transmission. I hope its a good one for chryslers sake. The getrag and 47rh didnt do them any favors in the consumer confidence department.

They have many more repairs per hundred models than the lexus or infinity. Right now infinity is on top for cars over 3 years old and lexus is on top for cars under 3 years.

Interesting enough the dodge ram has gotten some recognition for improving its reliability. It also won the jd powers initial quality survey. Nice touch. Might make ford and chevy take notice. Give us a 5 or 6 speed auto and a crew cab and they will be taking some serious market share away from ford.

Many, many psd owners acknowledge the 5. 9 is a good engine. They need the extra space a crew cab affords so the dodge is not an option. Now with dodge on top in torque and tow ratings and real brakes(Thank you jesus) it is a real contender.

The hp war will be interesting this fall. I wonder what ford has up their sleeve. Seems like they got most the bugs out of the 6. 0. If they buggered up another year though they might be in trouble with even their loyals. So they might leave its hp and torque ratings where they sit. Glad to see ford antied up with a 5 speed. Forced dc's hand on that issue.
