My '96 is dripping oil (very slowly) from the oil plug! Here's the story. I bought a brand new one at the Dodge place in town about 6 oil changes ago. About 3 changes ago I took it in. Soon afterwards I noticed oil dripping very slowly from the oil plug. Yes! I'm positive that's where it's leaking. I assumed it wasn't tight enough so I took it back and told them to tighten it. They said it was tight enough, but because there was a rubber washer on the oil plug it was causing a little oil to squish out. I let it go until the next change which I did myself ( I change every 4,000 mi) and put another washer on with brass in it. (The amount of oil leaking wasn't enough to make me run out of oil). Anyway, the plug still leaked. I let it go again until the next change. Last night I changed my oil and put thread tape on the plug threads. I wrapped it around about three times. Still Leaking! What the h***!

Plus, I didn't make it to 4,000 mi. , that wasn't a problem before. I think Jody may be trying to leak or use oil somewhere because the plug isn't leaking that bad. I'm going to check him about every other day, but it's hard to tell with the leaking plug. Help Boys! How can I get that pug to quit dripping oil? I think I need to solve this problem, before I can see if he's leaking or using.

Kat:) (even though she still has oil in her long curly hair!);)

I went thru the same thing but had a different result. I replace mine with a finger touch unit from geno's. There have meen many an oil pan that have distorted from over tightening. Some plugs themselves have even cracked. At your next oil change, stop by a local true value or whatever and get yourself an O~Ring that fits the plug and see how that makes out for ya. that worked for me before I got The finger touch plug. The o ring can take up the slack that is left in the distorted oil pan.

The stock drain plugs will usually fail by cracking the flange if overtorqued. Check in the fillet radius between the threaded section of the oil drain plug and the flange that seats against the pan. If it's cracked in that area, the only fix is to replace it.

By the way, I use a short-handled 3/8" ratchet and just snug the oil drain plug up hand-tight. It's never come loose, I've never had a leak and haven't cracked any plugs, either.

Don't know about the o-ring idea Tim. Every time I've tried to use one in a place where it wasn't designed to have one, i. e. with a groove, they just squish out when tightening.

I'm thinking maybe the drain plug shoulder is cracked from overtightening. Get a new plug.

My bad Bill, I shoulda specified. A nylon o ring that has a small diameter that fits juust inside the groove in the pan and is large enough to fit the plug itself. BigDaddy gave me one and it worked perfectly. The next oil change I got the valve anyways.

Hey Kat:p . seems like a couple of guys beet me to it. Replace the plug. You might think Jody's sexy with his "CURLY HAIR",but he's no fun without "Juice" in him:D
