My concern is with the speeds our trucks are starting to obtain in the 1/4 mile..... With a 7000+ lb. vehicle going 115+ if one has a problem I don't think even the current roll cage regulations will stop a disaster. The tires we are running on most of our rigs don't have the speed rating for what we are runnning now, let alone where these trucks are headed.

As mentioned above John P. awesome job, but as one of my good friends I don't want to see anything happen to him or anyone else.

Very good point Doug. If anyone puts one on the roof at those speeds, it will be really bad.....

My thanks to ALL of you for your kind words! ;)

Doug, thanks for posting the information! Doug is right, I made the run this past Sunday at our local dragstrip, "Coastal Plains Dragway" in Jacksonville, N. C. As my son Johnner (banshee) said, they have been VERY good to us "dieselheads" there over the years and their insurance carrier makes the "cut-off" at 11. 99, instead of the 11. 49 NHRA rule. At present, the track does not have guardrail all the way down and their "shutdown area" is a little short, so that probably contributes to their rule. I didn't mind being "barred" for an 11. 76 run though! :D

Here are the numbers from my time slip for you guys to look at:

Reaction Time: . 620 (A perfect light there is . 500).

60 ft. Time : 1. 75

330 ft. Time : 4. 91

1/8 E. T. : 7. 54

1/8 MPH : 93. 17

1/4 E. T. : 11. 76

1/4 MPH : 115. 96

My previous best E. T. before this run was back on 10-14-06 when I ran a 12. 1 @ 110 MPH. My best MPH run was on that same day with a run of 12. 3 @ 113 MPH. What was the difference on this past Sunday?? Well, my ring and pinion are flat WORE OUT (with over 250,000 original miles on them) and on the runs on 10-14-06, I launched "easy" with only about 10-13 lbs. of boost. This past Sunday, I took that "launch boost" to a little over 20 lbs. !

That harder launch cut my 60 ft. times from 1. 90 to 1. 75. I also lowered my tire pressure from about 35lbs. to 28-30. The weather was also PERFECT! At the time of my run, the temperature was 59-60 degrees, the humidity a VERY low 20%, barometric pressure 30. 18 and our elevation is below 100 feet! Basically, very nice cool, dry air, perfect conditions for drag racing! And I did all of this on just #2 diesel with the Scheid Water Injection System to keep everything cool!

I could not have ever done this without the expertise and guidance of my good friends at Scheid Diesel. I want to thank Dan Scheid, Mike Wood, Brad Ingram, Brain Koester and almost the entire Effingham Staff for all they did for me. Also Clint and Ranee Cannon, Mike Meineke and Sean Porter at ATS for all they did for me on the transmission and more so on setting up the new "Five Star Converter" to work with my 12 valve engine! Also, I want to thank my fine son Johnner, for all his help and guidance the past few weeks in getting everything "tuned up"! You are the best buddy! ;) Everything is working great together and many of you here know how long I have been working towards this goal.

Thanks again to all of you for the words of encouragement and support!

Good point, a little voice mentioned this to me a couple years ago, when I was running a Vette down on I-80, at 120+. "Will a Mickey Thompson Baja MTX take this speed?" Answer: I reckon not for long. Let the Vette get away.

John P, you are in trouble whereever you go!!! :-laf

Fast was not a problem, it was getting there QUICK I had issues with!! I like rolling 75 MPH starts, in overdrive!

I guess that comes from sledpulling-pick a gear, and stay with it. ;)

good point we went through this 7 months ago when wade ran 12. 01 @ 116 his tires started comeing apart or chunking.

How can Wade run 116 when his ECM defuels at 109?

But I digress :-laf

Congrat's again John!! :D

I switched to Toyo Proxes ST's this year for this exact reason!! I was always a little antsy trapping at 100+ with 85 mph rated tires  The Toyo's are V speed rated and look pretty nice to boot! :D

Greg:

Thanks for the great advice on the tires!

I definitely need to get rid of the 265/75R/16's I have now and go back to a 285/75R/16 which is what I had always run before this set of 265's. My tire dealer didn't have any 285's and I had cut my right rear and needed tires right away,..... so,..... I put the 265's on. As was posted above, I am having trouble getting traction at the line.

I will look into those Toyos you mentioned.

No problem John :)

The only problem is you will need to find some new wheels to get the tires in a size thats tall enough. I use to run 295/75/16 Nittos which are 33". Had to go to 18" wheels and 305/60/18's in the Toyo's to get close, 32. 5". You can go to 20's and get 32. 8" but spinning the larger wheel weight and the lower profile (50) isn't good for the track ;)

I promised some of you I would let you know when one of our "N. C. Diesel Crew" were able to get one of the videos up of my 11. 76 run.

My friend Chet has posted one on this link:

If that doesn't work, go to www.dieseltruckresource.com and to the "Competition Section. " In that section you will see a thread titled:

"Jacksonville Videos. " On the first page, you will see the same link, with my name "John_P" near it.

Hope you all enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed driving it!! :-laf
