Thanks, TDR Staff

Ever tow over CA108 from US395 to Sonora, CA?

CDL and GVWR Info.

I am interested in getting the Jordan Ultima 2020 brake control, but am wondering how the control module is mounted to the brake pedel. Is is fairly simple? More importantly, is it a clean and reliable installation? What is the price for the unit? The design concept seems good to me. Thanks for the info.

Here are a couple of sites with photos from fellow TDR members that can give you an idea of how it installs and how they installed their units.

The photos below show how one installed his unit in order to not drill a hole in the kick panel. He made the bracket. http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=589847&a=4880909

This group of photos shows how one person replaced the ashtray. http://24. 4. 158. 191/Dodge/Ultima/Ultima.html

My unit sets on the floor on the rise next to the gas pedal. Sorry, no photos.

Another mounted his on the underside of thsteering column. Sorry, no photos of that installation either.

It is more complicated than just plugging in some wires but it's been easy to use. That's an important factor when comes to my co-pilot taking over the controls.

Thanks for the reply. My question actually had to do more with the mounting of the
component that mounts to the brake pedel. How is it attached? How is the cable
routed and connected to the display unit? etc. The names given to the components
of the system by the manufacture are confusing. They refer to the unit that mounts to the brake pedel the "control unit". The unit with the controls is called the "display unit" I think.

klenger, I have had the Jordan Ultima 2020 trailer brake controller in my '98. 5 Ram for a little over two years now. When it's working it works very well. I've already had to send it back to Jordan once, now it seems to be screwed up again. Apparently I need to remove it and send it back to be fixed (or replaced). It seems to me that Jordan updated the design and told me if I had anymore problems they would send me the updated version as a free replacement. So far they have been very good to deal with.

And now, to answer your question; the Ultima 2020 controller gets its braking info via a cable (similar to a bicycle brake cable) attached to the brake pedal arm. Jordan covers all the finer points of installing the brake pedal mounting assembly in their installation instructions. It attaches to the brake pedal arm with two set screws (required "allen" wrenches for the entire installation of the product are provided by Jordan Research).

I mounted my Ultima 2020 to the knee bolster however, not offset as in the linked pic. I mounted mine directly under the steering column using a combination of the two mounting screws provided (they screw directly through the case... no mounting bracket is required) and Velcro, covering 100% of the top of the unit. The Velcro provides several functions; it aids in unit retention, acts as a gasket between the unit and the knee bolster (which also prevents any rattling), and levels out the ever-so-slightly uneven mounting surface of the knee bolster. The installation looks very clean and has worked flawlessly for over two years.

The key to the excellent brake proportioning qualities of the Jordan 2020 are attributed to the cable actuated design which, when properly set up and adjusted will mirror the service brake action of your Ram. . EXACTLY.
