Thought you might want an update on the newest version of the Jordan 2020 Ultima Brake Controller. I spoke to Camco the other day and the expected release date is mid 2007. I know it's not an exact date but it's the best I have. I will try and keep those who are waiting for it updated either here or on my website www.plugitright.com. Diana

I have a Jordan Brake Controller and love it. How will this new product be different? Is Mr. Jordan still active? When I purchased mine he answered the phone, did tech support etc. . lol!#@$%!

I understand it will be an updated version of the 2020 but don't know yet exactly how it will differ. The last time I talked to Jordan [what a character] he told me he was going to stay involved during the initial update. I don't think he really wanted to retire. We too, just love our Ultima but we are looking forward to seeing just what the new one will be. Diana

Well, the latest update on the Jordan is that Camco had shelved it indefinitely. What a bummer. If you wish to visit out website Plug It Right and click on the brake controller tab you'll see what we have done since hearing that news. Diana

The question becomes I have used the Jordon for a long time now. What makes yours different that others that have been out there a long time using the apparently the same technology. I am not saying against yours just trying to understand.

Hi Bob,

The Jordan used a cable to actuate the electrical part of the controller. The Max Brake uses a pressure sensor operated by the hydraulic brake pressure to actuate the electrical part of the controller. The newer features and technology are explained in more detail on our website. Diana

Way back in the dark ages 1960's Tekonsha used to have a brake controller using hydraulic pressure. As I recall though you had to put a "T" in a brake line at the master cylinder and it was plumbed to the controller but worked well.

When I asked about a comparison I was thinking of a comparison to the BrakeSmart which appears to be similar. I suppose it is bad form to compare that controller to yours. When my Jordon gives up will consider yours if only because you post on TDR. Thanks for the help by the way.

Hi Bob,
Continuing this may be going into an area where I'm crossing forum lines and I don't want to do that. My intent had been to update my customers that have been checking for my latest info.
If you would like to either call, send me a pm or e-mail me at -- email address removed --. Dutch or I will be more than happy to answer the questions you posted. Thanks, Diana

It is ok I am satisfied with my Jordon so until it goes south will not be looking for another, It was more curiosity than anything. Thanks for the responses.

I'll verify what Diana said - I feel the Jordan was bought out to eliminate competition (my guess) - but it doesn't exist any more!!!!

I looked around to find what would be a suitable replacment - I wanted a REAL proportional - not the electronic guessing ones. Only could find the Brakesmart and the Maxbrake.

I called Diana on Wed and have a Maxbrake now!!! - (Friday) - yes I paid for 2 day mail - and they went out of their way to get me since mine broke and I need one for a trip - THANKS Diana - I appreciate it!!!!

I'll update on how well I think this works.

My guess was that the rapid growth of sales of BrakeSmart then MaxBrake controllers simply killed the market for Jordan brake controllers. The Jordan apparently did a good job but required the additional complexity of a mechanical cable link to the brake pedal assembly.

Anyone who has owned and used a BrakeSmart or now the newer competitor, the MaxBrake can tell you they are the best ever manufactured. They cost a little more but provide perfectly synchronized tow vehicle/trailer braking.

The BrakeSmart I have is now about seven years old and is now on my third Dodge Ram. The three trucks have been driven about 500k miles with the BrakeSmart and have towed a mix of heavy and light trailers for at least 250k miles.

I see no added complexity with the Jordan vs the maxbrake or brakesmart. The one has a cable - simple to install. The other has a pressure transducer - simple to install. The one was about $150 the others 350-500. Hmmm - I'd rather save the 200+ dollars.

A quick tow around this weekend and I can't say there's much difference between the Jordan and the maxbrake. I'll give a definitive answer next week after our trip.

After towing with the max brake I can't tell a difference between it and the jordan - except it is twice as expensive - but less than the brakesmart.

So, unless the Jordan is produced the next one I buy will be another Maxbrake.
