Your insurance may not have an issue, but when you hit someone hauling a gross of twice what your rig is rated the other party is going to have a huge problem with it. ALL insurance fine print reads that they do not INSURE or admit fault if YOU are using the vehicle in a manner it was not designed for. Do not take the reps opinion to heart as you put money in his pocket... GET IT IN WRITING. He won't do that.

Your from Dallas aren't you. You know about the oilfield. I can point you to several hundred (probably several thousand) trucks that are legally registered to haul CGWR of 30,000 plus. Everyone of these trucks are insured. they have to be.

From your standpoint, does this mean when one of our haul trucks, rated at 80,000 lbs hooks up to a 6 axle lowboy w/ jeep and hauls a 160,000 lb gas compressor - our insurance wont cover it because its not rated for it. I think not.

It takes a good driver to haul that kind of weight, if its a loaded down gooseneck or a haul truck. I have many a snowbird in S. Texas hauling a 10,000 lb rv with a 1/2 ton pick up. That fine, let them do what they want, just pull over when I need to pass - it is legal in Texas. :D

It is a gasfield and yes I know about it... I have a well on my 106 acres outside of Burleson. The State/ Feds have you limited to 80K so the roads are not torn up... has nothing to do with the truck manufacturers weight ratings. Extra fees can be paid and permits can be bought to haul over the State/Fed ratings. Our ratings are from the manufacturer and have to do with the engineering of the truck. Not sure of what you are referring to in the pulling over to pass... . if you are referring to driving on the shoulder so someone can go around... that is illegal in Texas, but everyone does it.

I'd like to remind you all of the site guidelines. Have a look and refresh your memory if necessary. No profanity or personal attacks or stuff for sale allowed in the forums.

Just go on thinking your megacab is a great towing platform. You obviously cannot come to terms with the fact that the numbers don't add up. The original post is all about its inadaquate setup for doing so with its **** poor GVW when compared to its empty weight. The numbers do not lie!! You have tried to turn the tables numerous times even saying the comparison is apple to oranges. It is not! The GVW's are off the manufacturer's websites. I have no issue with the MEGACAB or Dodge... simply agreeing with the original poster on why he is jumping ship. He NEEDS a large cab with an 8 foot bed... a truck Dodge does not build... that simple. If your MEGACAB works for you... GREAT!!! It sucks for me simply towing a moderately sized RV and does not work at all in my business. An issue with a lot of people. That is the fact.

I never said I thought it was the perfect towing platform for towing something like a mobile home. It DOES work for me great and thousands others. I can tell you and can pull up threads that say your dually doesn't work for most either.

You should know what your talking about before you type. Appearantly it seems to be a problem for some.

§545. 058 - DRIVING ON IMPROVED SHOULDER

(a) An operator may drive on an improved shoulder to the right of the main traveled portion of a roadway if that operation is necessary and may be done safely, but only:

(1) to stop, stand, or park;

(2) to accelerate before entering the main traveled

lane of traffic;

(3) to decelerate before making a right turn;

(4) to pass another vehicle that is slowing or stopped on the main traveled portion of the highway, disabled, or preparing to make a left turn;

(5) to allow another vehicle traveling faster to pass

(6) as permitted or required by an official traffic control device; or

(7) to avoid a collision

...

To the Original Poster: Good luck, i personally would have gone with the Duramax. . but Ford trucks themselves {not the engine} are plush, especially that King Ranch! :cool:

JNelson: You are correct, when i lived in Texas, i was wondering if that was legal . . and apparently it is!Cobrajet is only saying that because in North Texas, there's no where to pull right onto. . too many dang cars sitting still in rush hour traffic lol

Thanks, so far so good. I'll do the first tow with it this Saturday... going down to Laughlin for a week.

I think you will be happy with the towing expereince. That is one thing with my 05 Excursion I was always so impressed about. I was lifted and had air bags in the rear but just in general I felt more confident whether it was 6000lbs or 12000lbs in tow over my 01. 5 Dodge Ram with 200 more hp. Not sure if it comes stock now but my buddy has the intergrated brake controller and raves about it. My only complaint about that rig was the cronic oil leaks from the bell housing and other funky engine issues otherwise I was really happy with that rig.
