I am so lucky to have such a good junkyard here in town :D :D , look what I picked up. First is an air to water aftercooler in excellent shape with matching fuel lines, 24 valve breather with metal tube (for a little extra crankcase venting- thanks Stomp for the idea), an oil fill tube elimination cap (the round cap on top of the valve cover and in second pic), a valve cover with the  blue Cummins C, finally a driverside a-pillar trim piece needed for a-pillar gauge pod.

The 24V breather will take the place of the oil fill tube in the timing cover. Should help with the 50+psi of boost and relieving some crankcase pressure. Now just need a valve cover with oil fill cap GL.

I picked up the oil tube elimination cap for someone, I recall was looking for one.

Bill,

You DID pick me up an arm rest... . RIGHT?

AHH, what side did you want? The LE model I was in had a nice passenger side arm rest already removed, but the d-side arm rest was gone. I thought I read where you sourced one from one of those aftermarket/restoration places. . ?

Are ya ditching the air to air idea on your truck then Bill?

Not just yet. I plan on trying to use the air to water injection line set when I put everything back together. See if they will clear the IC pipe and intake horn, throttle bracketry. Then could swap in the aftercooler down the road. Plus I'm sure the aftercooler inj lines are the bigger size ID.

The truck is torn down sitting in the garage. I have it scheduled to go to Scheids Fri the 24th. Gonna have it towed to them and back for the machine work. Then I'll put it back together.

I found it

Bill,

I located the two-in-one.

It's a timing cover mounted crankcase vent AND oil fill!! WHOOOHOOO Oo.

So anyrate. The PN? Well I can't read upside down in the mirror. It's like Spanish.

It would "APPEAR" to be PN 3944727 I honesly can't tell. The engine serial number is clearly printed inside the bus. It's 45775737. A 1999 24 valver

Now you can vent that sucker in a BIG way AND add oil @ eleven gallons per min. :)

Thought you'd like to know... ... ...

I've seen some marine guys simply clamp a small K&N filter to a stock truck oil fill... cap removed of course... . to accomplish the same thing.

If the boat's "running attitude" is too great a Cummins B will puke out of the normal vent hose like there's no tomorrow... even a new one. This mod keeps the oil in the engine.

Jay

Yes sir, thanks. I have mine bolted up, looks good lol. Crankcase vent AND oil fill, that would be sweet. Think ya can get a pic of the one you're talking about?

Hah... ..... no.

It looks like the one you have but w/the common Cummins oil fill cap that is positioned 45° to the side. Like the fill cap is leaning over toward the injection pump and the vent opening is pointed towards the fan hub. It hase the same steel line that is routed downwards in front of the case cover. A rubber elbow up top that fastens the vent tube to the body of the piece that threads into/onto the case cover.

Schweet.

Hmmmm, I wonder if it would still be slow pouring, since its short and pointed to the side? You don't fill from there do ya? I figure you fill through the one piece valve cover at rear of engine yes no? Or is this a rear engine bus?

Reliablegoods.com shows it as a good part number, but no description or price, you have to email for quote. I might run the number by Scheid or Mid-States and see what they say. Of course extra crankcase breathing probly isn't needed for most of us eh :p ?

It sounds like you already know, but I'll say it anyway. If you decide to fill through a valve cover, be prepared for it to take an eternity to get all of the oil in there. The drainback from the rocker area isn't all that fast. If memory serves, you can dump in a quart and let it drain, dump a quart, let it drain, you get the idea.

Travis. .

Hi Bill. Some guys have all the luck. I need the hard oil line from my 92s auto to the heat exchanger. The one with the pressure sending unit in it. Pleeeeeze!!!!

Matthew.

hey Bill, will that aftercooler fit under the hood? looks tall. then again I dont have much first gen experience.

Part # is good, is this what you're after?

Oh wow!! I'm in love :-laf . That part number GL mentioned, is it just for #10 in the pic? Got part numbers for each part Alan? That's exactly what I want.

Edit: actually it might not be necessary. I bet #9 (oil fill tube) is the exact same one as our stock fill tube. I could just reuse everything, and only need #10  .

Edit#2: Ok looks like #2 (oil fill tube brace) is different, will need that. Part numbers Alan:D?

B,

I don't use them. They simply go along for the ride. All the Cummins engines here are front mounted Transit style and cannot access the front of the engine. I fill by way of the valve cover.

Only two of the engines have this particular assy. The other (24 valve) have the same assy you currently have.

Be careful to route the tube extension down below the oil pan as the 24 valve guys have found that the radiator will plug with oil/dust accumulation w/out an extansion. I use an extension on all my (24 valve) engines. I think it's 5/8" coolant hose.

You can thank me with a steak dinner at SOP #3... or kick my behind when the radiator cloggs.

Gotta be better-n spilling oil all over the top of the enhine's cyl head. I fill the old 12 valves through the ONE valve cover with an air powered oil pump!!!!!!! It will make a BIG mess in no time at 6/7 gallons per min.

TKingsbury, yeah I've heard about the slow oil fill, haven't tried it yet, but I'm prepared. This two-in-one would be even better though!

Rebel Ram, I'll keep my eye out. Probly not likely though, 1st gen Dodge Cummins specific parts are hard to come by locally. 1st gen gasser, and Cummins only parts are a piece of cake.

wtfd6, yeah the aftercoolers fit. I know of a few guys with them on 1st gens and 2nd gens.

Part numbers would be best, as I just went through a ton trying to simply source a valve cover with oil fill cap:mad:!!!! BTW, still one month on order and haven't received it yet :{ . Suppose to be in today. I didn't realize they were in such short supply or high demand. At least I'm not trying to source parts with only an Autozone or Napa in town :-laf . .

I'm sorry…I'm a little slow on the uptake, here. Maybe someone could spell it out for me. The "two-in-one," that's an oil fill tube with a crankcase vent built into it? And, humor me here, in what application would additional venting be advantageous?
