Just finalized my order of a 6.7L 68RFE 3500 4X2 Laramie Mega Cab!

All, just finalized my order of a 6. 7L 68RFE 3500 4X2 Laramie Mega Cab, I want to thank all of you who have posted within these forums. The information and expertise you openly shared here prepared and guided me through the most enjoyable vehicle purchase I have ever experienced. In fact I was favorably impressed by all three of the TDR friendly dealerships frequently touted in these postings, Carson City Dodge, Dave Smith Motors and Dishman Dodge but as those Highlander movie/series fans among us know “in the end there can be only one”.

I’m located in Southern California and although I’ve done business with a local Dodge Dealer here in the San Diego area, 5 vehicles since 1983, even having done radio spots for them back when I was a young sailor (a long, long time ago). I could not get their fleet/internet guy to realize that he was not going to get my business again unless he could match other deals I was seeing on the internet. So following the advice of many here I faxed build sheets to seven dealerships that offered promise, last week while on a business trip back east, very soon the fruits of that effort singled out three strong contenders and separated some well advertised pretenders

Of note here, I’ll share my only negative experience: In spite of Steven White Motors of Hickory, NC’s claim of their EBAY pricing being the lowest on the internet their bid could not beat Carson/DSM/Dishman. When I tried to explain to their sales manager Bush Kenerson that the aforementioned dealerships offered TDR discounts that start negotiations in back of FWP pricing, even offering up links to TDR content, he challenged either increduously or taking me for a fool “Some dealers may say that they will give a discount but they basically have it packed into the initial price. Based on our ebay pricing, we can match or beat any other dealers LEGITMATE written offer”. Well their bid fell short as previously mentioned and that coupled with the tenor of our exchange convinced me that I was dealing with someone that would bring a knife to a gunfight, so that ended my communications with Mr. Kenerson and Steven White Motors.

Now back to the positive, Carson City, Dave Smith Motors and Dishman bids where all within $322. 05 of each other, after having to re engage both Carson and DSM to get the builds exactly right. Understand that these small nuances were not real issues for me; however they quickly identified to me that Adam Macomber of Dishman Dodge’s attention to detail and product knowledge was superior and gave me additional comfort in executing this first attempt at a remote negotiation/transaction. Adams initial bid was spot on correct and as it turned out after getting everyone else onboard, the least by $117. 05 and he even through in airfare to get me to Spokane to boot.

Mel Swanson has spoke volumes here about Adam’s professionalism in his posting of his own buying experience; I’m here to witness that he did not overstate that case whatsoever! If you don’t give Adam the opportunity to compete for your business you’ll be doing yourself a great disservice.

So once again I wish to thank all of you who add your considerable expertise to this knowledge base. Adam, live long and prosper, it’s my intent to bring my business your way till I beam out of here. I’m awaiting the building and delivery of the below stellar truck at a 4K under invoice price I would have never imagined, I’m stoked!!!

Well let me be the first to say that sounds like a sweet truck and I hope the build time wait doesn't get too long. Look forward to pics when you get it.

That new transmission with the new engine is going to surprise people. It is going to run good with the two new gears! I can't wait to try one.

I'm in Spokane and understand your feelings... . I've done business with both DSM on my last new Jeep and Dishman..... I don't know Adam but have used Rob Crosswhite for several years... . I agree he has to be as nice as Adam...

I am however holding off my next purchase..... I need to upgrade 2 trucks and want... . 5500's so I'm in a holding pattern..... I need to replace and F550 and one of my 3500's.....

I was shown some early stuff on the 4500 and 5500 almost a year ago and the dates for release... . so I'm hoping that we can order soon... . I keep sending him emails... about when can I order so I guess that when they get the information I'll be on the list that's called... .

What I want to share... is that with both dealers I feel that I'm getting a fare shake each time I buy..... and that's all that I ask for... they need to make some money, we need to save some money and somewhere there is common ground.....

Those guys you mention, who blew you away... . if they really wanted the truth all they had to do was send an email to DSM or Dishman from their home email address to get the truth... . BTW the freight costs to Dishman are usually 120 to 140 lower than to DSM as they are in different districts and the freight structure is different. This is controlled by DC... . so on the exact same truck I've found that Dishman is that 120 to 140 bucks less.....

We've been lucky enough to get most of the sales for pacbrake on those customers passing through town that want the TDR program and no sales tax to out of WA buyers.....

One last comment..... join the farm bureau in your home state and be a member for 6 months... . this 25 fee for WA members gives you another 500 off a new truck that both dealers honor.....

First--- It seems like it will be an awesome truck when it gets to you!

Second -- $9. 00 for code NHK block heater? On a $40,000 truck, they can't give you a $9. 00 item? And I am really surprised at seeing the UCDS "option" at $1000+.

Is this a California thing? I thought the whole point of the 6. 7L was to meet the emissions regs in 50 states.

Are they still charging for under hood insulation and for rear wheel well fender liners? Mine were included in the 1998 model, but by 2001 when my buddy got his, they were charging for those things.

Confused... .

Tim

I think the $9. 00 NHK block heater is just for the cord, I think the actual heater comes with the truck.

Nice sounding truck, I thought I was the only one who bought loaded 2WD's :)

Congrats on the new rig. Disappointed you had a less than advertised experience with Steve White, as I'm going to be ordering a new one or trying to find that right '07 soon... .

jelag: JIM. in Spokane... ... . Thanks again for responding to my postings, "Dealers won't Dance" back in Dec. 06. and turning me on the Dishman Dodge. Be sure to ask Adam Macomber for the customer referral discount. My 07, is on the train heading for Spokane, as we speak.

Man, you said a mouth full. I appreciate you taking the time to post details of your buyers research, for the TDR Brotherhood. So far Adam Macomber, deserves the accolades. During my carrier in the US Army, I would fall all over myself attesting in writing the accomplishments of my High Performers. Slackers got the pen, too. As it goes talk is cheap. When you put it on paper it has strength.

Vote with your Dollar.

Tim,

The rear wheel liners are an Mopar aftermarket add on...

What's really even more confusing than this Bluetec charge not really being an option is that it MSRP's for $995 and Invoices for $1024 (Riddle me that Batman) Oo.

J,

My entire experience wasn't bad early on I was dealing with Dion Blackburn he was most accomodating it's only when the deal was kicked upstairs to the Sales Manager that things soured in fact i signed off my email by saying

" thank you for your time, even more thanks for Dion's professionalism, too bad you let him down... #@$%! "

And you can bet I CC'd Dion on that response as well!

Thanks for the info. Well see if the want to dance a little bit, seems like all fingers in the area point towards Steve White.

Hey, congrats on the deal. I have a couple of questions. I too am in So Cal and have an 01 Quad Cab which I want to upgrade to a 6. 7. What will the DMV here ding you for bringing the truck in from out of the state and since you are in San Diego, how are you going to deal with the High Sulphur Mexican Dielse if that is even an issue for you.

Thanks for any help.

Sean,

While I seldom venture south of the border, I do and will cross several state borders both with and sans trailer so I've been concerned ULSD saturation in many states may be somewhat less than we enjoy in California. So the issue becomes how do we extend the range of our trucks... I'm currently considering two options down the road and they are the obvious ones:

1. Larger or aux fuel tank (Negative here is the additional weight impacts both payload and max tow capacities).

2. Maximize fuel mileage capabilities (there are several candidates that fit into this category, one that intrigues me currently is a over/under drive such as the one offered by GearVendors from right here in El Cajon, CA. ) Now this will probably be a costly venture but based upon the solo/tow mileage you knock out annually it may be a sound investment.

With regard to DMV I've been assured that all CA DMV paperwork will be presented to me when I pick up my truck and I'll simply take that to DMV and pay the CA sales tax @ time of registry, hope this helps.

Peter, you'll need to weigh it before going to DMV. Mayflower on Miramar Rd. does it for $10. 00. Mandatory for registration. Best of luck. Let the waiting begin!

... and if they go by ACCURATE weight, remove the spare tire and have the tank near empty (and the bed and cab empty as well) when you roll through the scales.
