Just like the dimples on a golf ball, what you see inside the cross vanes may be put there to disturb the air flow on purpose. Some things are counterintuitive.

My '03 does not have the guide vanes in the lower elbow at the turbo inlet. Wished I could get them for my '03 and see if it made a difference.
