How likely is it that I have a bad Comp... ?? :(

Oh and it could be. I have seen 4 go bad just in our area and recently there was a thread on this. I will say that edge is right up there with customer service that is for sure.

a very short time..... HOWEVER their is something very wrong with your setup. There must be someone living near you who has a setup that you can drive and you will see the difference.

... . Turn the box on - and "Katie bar the door!" No Comparisson - you have a problem - please keep us informed.....

Actually, a close friend of mine has an '01 2500 QC SB 4x4. . I have been for a ride & it is, to say the least - an impressive ride. . He has since perfected his launch & says it's even more of a hoot. . Anyway, I was thinking about trying his box on my truck, but then I realized there are 2 different comps for the 98. 5-'00 & '00+. . Didn't want to run the risk of frying his Comp, if there were a significant difference in wiring / configuration. .

After emailing the Edge tech gurus, Edge emailed back & asked about lift pump pressure. . <?> Couldn't really see the logic behind the query, but I answered it anyway. . As of 3 PM yesterday - no other response. .

Is it safe to unplug the box & send it out, or should I unplug the data link and MAP sensor connections. ?

Boost elbow?

This maybe a dumb question since I run a VA.

Does Edge give you guys a Boost Elbow to keep the Wastegate closed?

I might have missed somebody covering that, but I thought I'd try and help a little. Hope you get it figured out.

Yeah - they have a replacement elbow with a drilled plug in it. . I'd say the hole is. . uhh... small. . :D (0. 010"??) I'm used to using a pneumatic bypass in the wastegate line (fancy term for a valve to atmosphere), but will give this boost fooler a try for now. . I think I get 24/25 psi at WOT...

Ask bigbad9r as he just went thru this exact same thing. His Comp up and quit on him and he sent the whole kit and cabootle back and they deemed it bad and sent hem a brandy new Version 9. XX (I Think) Comp problem solved.

"they deemed it bad and sent hem a brandy new Version 9. XX (I Think) Comp problem solved. "

HMMmmm - that's very interesting - wonder what the difference is betweem version 8 and version 9...

I dunno Gary, I am not sure of the version number either but I remember him saying a number and me thinking of microsoft in the back of my mind LOL! The different revisions must have something to do with

  • Different model years (Duh obviously)
  • Sensor variations between any of the years
  • Vp44 variations between the years (Revisions and spec codes)
  • General performance revisions

Theres what 4 different map sensors , 6 or 8 different vp44's ,and 6 different vp44 euiped moel yeas. I guess that makes up all those different revisions.

Been so long since I bought my Comp, I don't remember, does Edge actually sell DIFFERENT model Comps, depending on actual year - and whether it's for an ETC or ETH?

I sorta thought "one size fits all" - if not, guys buying used ones need to pay attention to what year or variation truck the Comp they buy came off of!

good point! Right off the bat you know for a fact there are DEFINATLY two different models (The flat map sensing plug and the triangular plug). So if that ver#9 is actually a good number(AGAIN I AM NOT SURE IF HE SAID 9) then that takes us to 7. factor in etc / eth that leaves us 6 and maybee those six are just software revisions. ??

HMMmm - now I *am* curious - I'll hafta check the part # on mine, cuz the first one I got from Edge went bad, and the second one they sent to replace it behaves quite a bit differently - now I wonder if they maybe weren't the same model or something...

comp question

I figured this might be a good place to get some info on the comp box. I am thinking of upgrading from my Ez to the comp and was wondering, does the boost fouler still work even though the comp is shut off? This is the main reason I am thinking of upgrading to be able to turn the box off and on with out unhooking it completely like my ez. Thanks for any help!!! gary :D

If you DON'T have the boost elbow installed (or other mod for automatic truck) then you WON'T get much more than 24lbs of boost. I went up to near 30lbs with the new elbow with just the Comp. BTW I like my Blue Chip cover as well.

If you haven't checked yet, make sure you have the ground lead for the Comp attached to the neg battery terminal, or I used the left front fender where the small lead comes off of the left side battery neg terminal, solved a major PITA I had with my Comp working intermittently.

Yep - I ran a ground lead to the driver's neg. battery terminal. . No go. . ! The unit is at Edge now - let's see what they come back with...

The saga continues... .

I just installed the comp box on my 01. I had problems to. I got po'ed at the tap connector and used my sodering pencil to burn the plastic Off the pump wire and sodered the grey wire on thinking that it was my problem. After two hours of frustration it turned out that the six pin connector that plugs into the box had one wire that had come out enougth that it didn't connect the the pin In the box!!!!!!! It was the white wire that went to the map sensor. Simplest things.
