Received Don's 1. 6 sticks on Thursday and put them in today. It runs like a whole different truck. Idles smoother, WOT turbo spools much quicker, actually gets to 24# boost, has a little bit of "puts you in the seat back" to it now - Aaaa haa haa haa haaaa I like it! Oo. The egts climb higher though, gotta watch that, during a WOT shot I was all
then I checked the gauge and saw 1200+
so I'll just have to be more observant of the egts. After paying more attention during a few more WOT runs, it never got higher than 1250 or so. Rip warned me about egts and that 1200 or slightly higher isn't too bad as long as it's not for prolonged periods. I tightened #1 injector nut too much and had a tiny leak - got lucky and was able to disappear it by backing off and snugging it back again. Whew, close one! It was a "b"-atch to start, wouldn't come alive after 4 sets of bump engine let LP run and then 5 sets of cranking for 30 seconds - had to loosen #'s 1, 3, 5 line nuts to bleed air out, then it fired, smoking, coughing and wheezing for a while then it smoothed out like never before. Sweet
Hardest part of the install was clearly getting the #6 injector line nut loose #@$%!. Tried everything in my arsenal: crows foot didn't get it, didn't have a big enough dia cheater bar to fit over the end of the box end of the 3/4" wrench, etc, etc. I finally made a tool - took an old bolt and 2 lock nuts tightened the p*ss out of them together and cut off the excess bolt. I inserted one nut in the box end of the wrench on the line nut then slid an offset 3/4" wrench on the other nut, so it effectively made one long wrench that could be at several angles to do the job - "pop" it broke loose with little effort. The rest of the job was a cake walk - definitely needed the bent tip needle nose pliers - made the job of pulling the crossover tubes out a little so the injectors would come out very easy. And they worked great as a lever to seat the crush washers. I adjusted the valves since I was there - they were within specs but, a bit loose so I did 0. 010" the intakes and 0. 020" the exhausts. It's been 42k since they were done last and were actually OK. But, it's one of those things that takes and extra 15 minutes or so and "you never know when the cover will be off again"???
Can't wait to install the Comp Box . . . maybe tomorrow :-laf Oo. :-laf
