Received Don's 1. 6 sticks on Thursday and put them in today. It runs like a whole different truck. Idles smoother, WOT turbo spools much quicker, actually gets to 24# boost, has a little bit of "puts you in the seat back" to it now - Aaaa haa haa haa haaaa I like it! Oo. The egts climb higher though, gotta watch that, during a WOT shot I was all :D then I checked the gauge and saw 1200+ so I'll just have to be more observant of the egts. After paying more attention during a few more WOT runs, it never got higher than 1250 or so. Rip warned me about egts and that 1200 or slightly higher isn't too bad as long as it's not for prolonged periods. I tightened #1 injector nut too much and had a tiny leak - got lucky and was able to disappear it by backing off and snugging it back again. Whew, close one! It was a "b"-atch to start, wouldn't come alive after 4 sets of bump engine let LP run and then 5 sets of cranking for 30 seconds - had to loosen #'s 1, 3, 5 line nuts to bleed air out, then it fired, smoking, coughing and wheezing for a while then it smoothed out like never before. Sweet :D

Hardest part of the install was clearly getting the #6 injector line nut loose #@$%!. Tried everything in my arsenal: crows foot didn't get it, didn't have a big enough dia cheater bar to fit over the end of the box end of the 3/4" wrench, etc, etc. I finally made a tool - took an old bolt and 2 lock nuts tightened the p*ss out of them together and cut off the excess bolt. I inserted one nut in the box end of the wrench on the line nut then slid an offset 3/4" wrench on the other nut, so it effectively made one long wrench that could be at several angles to do the job - "pop" it broke loose with little effort. The rest of the job was a cake walk - definitely needed the bent tip needle nose pliers - made the job of pulling the crossover tubes out a little so the injectors would come out very easy. And they worked great as a lever to seat the crush washers. I adjusted the valves since I was there - they were within specs but, a bit loose so I did 0. 010" the intakes and 0. 020" the exhausts. It's been 42k since they were done last and were actually OK. But, it's one of those things that takes and extra 15 minutes or so and "you never know when the cover will be off again"???

Can't wait to install the Comp Box . . . maybe tomorrow :-laf Oo. :-laf :D

1400+ but it should actually get cooler in the 1&2 levels with the boost elbow and boost fooler the comp provides. Say good bye to your tires though!

I just installed my 1. 6 injectors today too. Took me 3 hours from getting the tools out to running the truck. Mine started up after 3 bumps on the starter to get the fuel pump going and about 15 seconds of cranking the engine. Big difference in power, but I ended up taking off my Catcher and putting back the stock ecm. I really miss the low end w/o the Catcher, but my wife drives the truck quite a bit and she said it is too hard for her to control the smoke. Even I put out a little too much smoke at times when starting from a dead stop going uphill. I guess I'll be putting up my Catcher for sale, only ran it 2 weeks. Power with the injectors and TST PM3, especially in 5th and 6th is awesome.

To remove the 19mm nuts, I cut a cheap Taiwan made 3/4" open end in half and got a 1 ft. long pipe that fit snugly over the remaining handle. It worked really good, especially when using just the wrench to tighten up the nut, and then using the pipe on it to snug it down. To back off the crossovers I used a screwdriver that I bent the tip. I ground the tip a little so it would catch the threads. That worked great also.

JoeMc congratulations on the new injectors :D wait till you get the box on, and wire tapped :-laf my turbo will be up for sale soon, It will help with your heat !!! I just order a new one ;) you got to love the new power, You'll have to come out to the spring fling and put it on the dyno and see what kind of numbers you run :)

Um, what boost elbow and boost fooler "the comp provides" The only thing in the box when I received the comp box was the little black box, wire harness and instructions. Maybe I misunderstood your post w/the elbow and fooler. I take it they are not included with the purchase of the comp box. If they are please let me know - because if they are I've got a few phone calls to make.

The boost fooler is incorporated into the electronics of the Comp. The boost elbow is a small brass fitting that screws into the compressor housing of your turbo. It has a restriction that reduces air flow to the waste gate controller.

Darkhorse - Thanks - I was wondering what that little elbow was for - I haven't read thru the instructions all the way yet. It's a nive day out and maybe if I cut the grass and get an item or two checked off the "Honey Do List" I can play and have another new post for tonight. Hopefully not "comp box in - VP dead".

Kelly - great numbers from the brawl - sorry I missed it. I think form what I recall reading my turbo is probably better for my application than your old stock one. I forget as it was a little while ago and being that I reserved myself to not spending anymore money on this thing till the trans, sticks and box are paid for I've blocked all memory/thoughts of a new turbo out of my mind for now. So, I'm probably wrong. Hey - a friend of mine who is the Editor of Hemmings Muscle Machines is coming down from Vermont to cover the F. A. S. T. drags at Englishtown on the 12th - maybe I'll see you there?

Later on
