Joe, Of course the software was dyno tested. Marco checked the software for error and its perfect.

Marco also ran #6 on his truck and it ran just fine.

Thanks and we are looking into it further.

I will report back

I'm sorry for being rude about the way I came across.

It's just weird. I get a lot more rattle then what others are saying and then when I try level 6 (No timing) I don't have any rattle, but it feels like the truck won't rev or accelerate when the RPM's get above 1,500 or so. There seem to be major flat spots or something It kinda feels like there is 15,000lbs behind me.

I also had no codes when I got home.

I don't know what it is, but I seem to be having different results then others and my truck is about as stock as they get.

This SW is close to perfect, just too much rattle for me to be comfortable with it.

JCasper,
I saw your MSG this morning ( my time ) and started to research the softwares. Is the 04. 5 / MAN truck in your sign the truck you're using the software? Just to make sure that I'm working on the right files... .

We'll I'm scratching my head here. I've checked ALL softwares for your truck down to the very last byte. No problems/mistakes from my side ( don't ask why I did these checks... :-laf ) . The SW's are exactly like what I wanted them to be. Like Bob said, I've tested the software one more time on the road and the power IS there. Sure #6 runs way hotter EGT wise than #7 but that's expected due to the fact that # 6 has the stock timing. That also explains why on # 6 you don't have any "rattle" at all.

I guess I need your help to find out what's going on.
Just thinking out loud... Do you have a rocktech ( SP? ) sensor or any other module stacked with the Smarty?

Thanks

Marco

My truck is stock except for a Donaldson muffler, Afe intake and the Smarty. There is no rokktech sensor or other timing mod done to it.

Maybe I should try another level, but level 5 and 7 caught my attention quick with the amount of noise/rattle present at upper rpms. Maybe it's not a problem, but I don't want to blow a HG or something due to too much cylinder pressure.

Let me know what you think. Should I try another level? It's one of those things where my idea of too much rattle and someone elses could be different. Hard to tell with out a side by side comparison.

So Marco or Bob... ... ...

Friday the 16th I loaded the software and dyno'd it that evening. At no point until yesterday did I have any of this timing rattle.

All last week nothing, very quiet, every day all the time with morning temps in the mid 20's.

Yesterday 26*, I have it BAD at idle at cold start up. Intermitently the rest of the day. Sometimes it's there and sometimes its not. Warm or cold running temps, makes no difference, sometimes there sometimes not.

This morning, cold start 29* it's there big time. Drive for 6-7 minutes and hit a stoplight and it's not there at all. Finish the last 2-3 minutes to work, pull in and park and it's rattling like crazy.

Any ideas why?

I also have the crazy rattly. At idle, and under 2200.

Also, I unloaded the smarty, and loaded it back in on Wednesday last week. After that, I lost the ability to lock the doors with the key fob when the cool down timer is running? It was working fine all week with the new beta.

Little Box Around Gear Indicator Gone

I don't know if this has been posted over here, but I have noticed a small issue with the Beta SW (really just an annoyance). My truck is a 2003 305/555 with 48RE, and when I put it in gear the little box that indicates the gear (P, R, N, D, 2, 1) disappears for all gears except P, and N. This has been noted a couple times on another site for the same type of truck. Just thought I'd make you aware of the little glitch. Has anyone else noticed this? Todd Schwantes.

__________________my truck does the same thing 2003 250hp standard output but I am running the standard software off the site, not a big deal just want Bob and Marco to Know.

Guys remember this is Beta software were talking about on this thread. The purpose of beta is to test and check for problems and recieve feed back on how your truck likes this software. So if your not happy throw a different version in.

Todd, That was something to do with the tq management. Some members even asked for this to return.

note taken. Thanks

Guys some of us are getting a little hard on people who aren't seeing the results they expect/want/other people see. I wouldn't dream of speaking for Bob or Marco, but I assume they are providing this Beta software to people on an open forum so they can get HONEST opinions on the merits and deficiencies of the particular software. Remember, just because you love the software doesn't mean that people who don't are wrong in wanting something different. I seem to remember people singing the praises of the 307 softwares, yet they all seem to be trying the newer softwares. Nothing is perfect and everything can be improved. Except for the 6mm ppc it is and likely always will be the most accurate cartridge ever created (sorry I love guns).

I myself get a timeing rattle but mine comes when I tip the throttle in medium. If I accelerate slowly, no rattle, if I hammer it, no rattle. But if I hit it with "getting into traffic" throttle she sounds like a gang of midgets are under the hood with ballpeen hammers.

I really don't use my Smarty very much (because of my own persnickety desires), but I would be crazy to sell my smarty, it is the only piece of equipment I own that is constantly being updated, improved and diversified. As others have said thanks Marco and Bob.

RMalone thats the spirit smarty may always be a work in progress since Marco is a perfectionist and always doing R & D

We do beta exactly for the testing results on the various combination of parts and pieces.

Our goal is to provide the best product available period.

We promise to keep on tweaking as the feedback comes in.

I really appreciate everyone's testing and feedback.

Thank you

I have no issues. I've mainly run the smarty on 9. I've done countless 120mph runs. I've expressed cold start and off idle quirkyness. nothing serious. . I've ran on 7 and 6 but I think it was more the TST's issue not the smarty's.

Bob; I would like to try out the beta software on my truck. I sent an email earlier but assume it was overlooked in the big rush before Thanksgiving.

Thanks, I think.

Again I am sorry Bob and Marco for how I came across but level 6 did not work at all on my truck.

I am willing to try something else if you have any ideas. Keep me posted.

Thanks,

Joe

made it to the dyno with the beta program today and here are the results:

SW#4 472hp 887tq

SW#5 518hp 918tq

SW#8 514hp 1010tq

SW#9 594hp 1054tq

the reason for doing just these settings are this. when towing my toyhauler i will usually run SW#5 using the initial 304 smarty program. and when i'm not towing it's on SW#9. now since this is the beta i thought it would be a good starting point. kinda funny how much my truck liked the timing tho.

now you can see that i am a little ****** off cause just another 6 hp till 600hp... ..... LOL. #@$%!

hey bob and marco keep up the good work. i'm ready for the race program to compare... ... ... maybe that will help me make the 600hp mark, then what i'll be buying more stuff till 700 then 800... .....

Oneshot... . do you have any #'s from the previous beta 4. 4? Be interested to see how the two compare... . i like the lower egt's and reduced smoke of the new beta, but the feel of the power of the old 4. 4... . and i guess the smoke as well! :) That may change when the new beta becomes production and has the moderate and wild tq mgmt settings or if i learn to use the throttle pedal w/o the eggshell touch i've learned to drive with.
