What would happen if you ran with out the spring under your diaphram,or took the pin out completely?I am not really planning on doing this but have heard of guys doin that. I guess it would just smoke like a train right?

There was some discussion, along with some braver souls doing some R&D for confirmation, about a year and a half ago on this very topic. Smoke and EGTs like you wouldnt believe- pyro and boost gauge racing each other to the max and beyond. Or so I heard; didnt experiment myself. Was afraid my pump would grenade or something. I have a problem even turning my smoke screw down or loosening the AFC spring tension.

I can confirm that in my case, the guide pin came out too far and it leaked fuel into the AFC chamber... . in fact, it still seems to "sweat" a bit even now... . I gotta install my extra pump top. .

No spring- no smoke control at all. Full fuel available at idle. No boost or air needed to acheive full fuel, you want some control of this. Will make a non-smoking, STOCK pump settings and injector'd truck smoke like a madman pump setting, POD'S equipped truck. BTDT. Was told it will soot up your motor, dirty your oil much more rapidly. Bottom line the top dog HP 1st gen VE pumped truck HAS a afc spring in his truck, leave yours in. But it won't hurt to try it for awhile of course, if ya wanna look like ya gots big power and smoke, but stock setup baby HP, torque.

Pin- if you mean the eccentric cone. Don't know bout that one. I'm sure it'd run, but also probly dump fuel where it shouldn't be dumped.

Starwheel on the other hand..... hmm where did I put that??... .

My son's 89 "donor" truck had no spring when he first got the truck. We drove it a couple of times to move it around... talk about smoke. What a mess.

Even smoked at idle.

And it didn't move all that well either.

Thanks to GL we put a spring back in there and the smoke went away...

(until we put in the PODs that is, but that's another story).

Who is the top dog? He needs to move over into the slow lane because I am turning on the blinker and moving into the fast lane. Im heading for number one. :-laf :-laf

Yeah I have been talking to him for a little while now and he knows that I am nipping at his heels. This next year is going to get interesting. I am positive there will be someone with 500hp without drugs and you might even see 600hp on #2 in a fist gen with the little ve pump.



Since I cheated to get 500hp I am now in the process of putting down some big numbers on #2. If all goes well I should have some numbers for you guys in January or sooner if I can get out of town to get it dynoed.
