Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Should I Be Concerned

Hi,

I am considering putting a K & N 57 Series FIPK systems, Air cleaner intake system. Anyone have any experience with this system, either good or bad? I was also thinking of putting a TST fuel plate (power kit #10) in my 12 valve. The

truck has bigger injectors and a Pac Brake. I haul a 10k 5er and wanted a little more power. I am a shade tree Mechanic and usually have to everything by trial and error. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

You don't mention if you are 5 speed or auto. Mine with the 10, 3k kit, and stage II's, really pulls, but have to watch the temps. Stock clutch also will not hold this setup.

BTW, I pull 14k empty.

I forgot about your original question. I have no opinion on the filter system you mentioned. You really need to consider gauges also.

The only bad thing I have heard about K+N is that the oil can get pulled into the intake. I guess it gets on the air intake sensor and the turbo fins.

I also have a (used)K&N FIPK sitting in the garage, waiting to install it. .

Anybody who has this have any comments? Thanks

I have this setup on my truck. The little paper that came in the box included a dyno chart that showed about a 20 hp increase on a stock 12 valve. Whether that is actually the case or not, who knows. As mentioned above, the oil can be pulled out of the filter. I don't know how much harm it causes, but shortly after I put it on, I got a little bit of oil buildup on my turbo blades. I'm probably going to change the filter to a non-oiled type. As far as performance goes, I didn't really notice a big increase in power. It was the first mod I did to my truck, before gauges, so I can't really say if it lowered EGTs or not. The only thing I did notice that changed was I could hear my turbo sing. :-laf Hope this helps a little.
