They aways said there was a problem but it was so small that it wasn't worth a recall.

Surprised going over NWB to see that someone else is making a jig, thought that CPFF's was patented.

harold bowers is making and selling these kdp jigs for 69. 95. deluxe kits with EVERYTHING xcept the fan hub wrench.

the advantage of harolds jig is wid the slightly different angle you can massage the pin back into its proper place if it has moved out somewhat. with the cpff jig i believe ya got to remove the cover to get the pin back into place. also harolds jig is priced right. someone else is selling kdp jigs for 300 bucks. as to the patent, harolds jig is considerably different from cpff's and also different from joe donnely's

I'm glad to live near somebody as handy as R. Ebel who helped me tab my KDP a month or so ago. Thanks again Richard! I take it you have your truck back together with new cam and o-ringed head??

3958017 "lock washer" $. 96 , 21 are in stock at the factory. To obtain one most Cummins distributors will charge for the part plus 13% (overnight fees) as the distributors don't stock them yet? Some dist. also tack on a $10 overnight fee if Cummins doesn't "comp it. "

Good luck, Andy

I didn't know there existed actually three types of cases. Non-bossed, bossed, and improved stepped hole (which I also assumed would be bossed). Not really sure what the boss does except prevent me from using a Tab. Guess the boss makes the KDP travel further before it falls out... gets Cummins that extra time needed to get out of the warranty:D . Maybe it stiffens the whole case in that area.

How do 12V'ers (the most experienced in KDP jigs) think using a jig varies in a bossed versus a non bossed situation.

I took the cover off my 24V last night and I believe I can see I have the bossed cover which makes using a tab almost impossible... at least a flat one. Its hard to see if its the stepped hole (improved case).

Plus I'm not sure about drilling with the jig either. I've only seen non-bossed covers before with a jig fix... as a display model. The screw was right up against the KDP bore hole. With a bossed hole, you have more metal to drill through and the bit could "break out" or wander out of the bossed area if the bit is right on the edge of the boss. Just thinking out loud.

Guess all I can do is use loctite and a punch to make some burs... just like CUmmins said. A tab in my situation would need to be stair stepped... and I dont like bending small pieces of metal that tightly. Could stress crack the metal. :( :(

Maybe I could just tap the bossed hole and install a plug with lots 'o lock-tite.

Neil,

Get a bolt that is M8 x 1. 25 x about 30mm (metric grade designation 10. 9)and some washers. Use the washers to shim the kdp tab up to the height of the boss. Just be sure that the washers don't interfere with the gears... you should have plenty of room.

I thought about that R. ebel but wasn't sure I could keep it from eventually rotating.

I went home on my lunch hour along with our digital camera from work. I took this photo. I also took a scratch awl with a hook end (90 degree) and pulled it down the hole bore. I think I do infact have the stepped or improved case.

There is definately a lip edge on the hole... albeit a very slight one. But you can feel it and I can also tell that the oil in the bore wont fully drain out... which means the lip edge is keeping the oil in the bore. You can also see in the photo that the stepped portion of the hole kinda looks cast in. I hope I'm right.

I couldnt get any movement after tapping for a while with a pin punch. My depth gauge didn't show any difference... so that is good. I think I'm gonna wick loc-tite it, tap it in good, and let it be. I just thought the step in the improved case would be more pronounced... guess it dont take much to stop it.
