Anyone interested in going to Massdiesel's on 3/16, please PM me ASAP with your e-mail address. MWheaton and I e-mailed those that we had addresses to. We are currently trying to organize how things will run that day.

Basically, Massdiesel has a two bay shop, one with a lift, one without. We want to "schedule" lift time. Just to make things go smoother.

Hope to hear from you guys soon.

:)

I volunteer to install everyone's governor spring kits... . it's so easy. . it almost hurts knowing that you waited so long.

Looks like we'll be doing 4 or 5 KDP's... ... hope there's enough time.....

Matt - still unsure to use the jig or tab method... . too many pros/cons to each... . but I'll be ready for both.

On edit: So it's a go or what? Looks like we'll be having the KDP party on 3/16/02 at Massdiesel's place... . if so... let's assume we will be doing 4 or 5 of 'em and will need lots of time/parts/patience/beer... . and fried food. :D

Torque Plate

Question for you guys. I see by the sig. lines there are several torque plates in the our trucks. Has anyone on this thread installed their own? I have a DD 002 plate and AFC kit in the garage. I was planning on installing this in the spring when it got warmer. If a couple of you have installed your own and are going to be as massdiesel's place on 3/16 I would like to discuss this while there. Looks like this should be a good day.

torque plate

araiha, Thanks for the reply. I will be bringing the upgrade kit with me. This is one area that is new to me re diesel engines. Thanks again, John

Uh o John you are in for a great ride Home, and with all the new power you'll be making. . You really shouldnt drink seeing how you may get pulled over racing the Mustang 5. 0 on the way home... . LOL

Oh By the way. . make sure you bring you plate with you very simple to install and plenty of people there to help you with it.

Jig

Okay guys I have something else. Yesterday I received Jig #16 from CPFF. This is being tracked by eGarwood who made all the arrangements to get it to me. This is one serious piece of work folks. I am totally impresed. The level of thought and effort that went in to making these is outstanding. I have permission to hold this kit until we get together on 3/16 at massdiesel's place. The directions for the jig use are clear and concise. And no disassembly except fan, fan mount & alternator. The only thing we need to use this kit is a variable pressure air regulator. We need to get down to 1. 5-2 lbs of air pressure.

Also I will bring my fuel plate/AFC kit and see where this goes but KDP first.

Anyway this post is long enough so I'll close.

Sincerely, John :D

I cant wait to see the jig. I will be there with tabs in hand I will be making 8 of them so Please let me know if you want one so we have enough. This is going to be so much fun!

Oo. Oo. Oo.

Any other special tools we'll need to do the KDP? If there is something we don't have, but need I can get it let me know...

Darren

Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo. Wanted to use these guys LOL

tools etc.

Hello again, Here is one of the nice things about the jig kit. It has a wrench to hold the fan pulley as well as the fan nut wrench itself. The only thing I need to scrounge now is an adjustable air pressure regulator that will go down to 1. 5 to 2 lbs. of pressure. Also a short piece of air hose with fittings. I should be able to scrounge all this by the time we get together. If anyone has any red loctite please bring it.

I have contacted CPFF re metal chips and he assures me this is a non issue. Any that might go inside will be stopped at the pump pickup screen anyway.

I have to say again how impressed I am by this jig kit.

Thanks, John

OK, somebody please remind me, the tab requires removal of the cover to install, and the Jig is to drill a hole and install a stop? Do I have that correct?

Thanks!

Rodney

Jig

RBrooks, Yes, you are correct. Jig requires removal of fan, fan mount, alternator. You then remove two bolts, put the jig in place, put positive air pressure in to the crankcase, then drill, countersink, tap, install stop screw. If pin has not started out you are home free from there. Just reassemble. Estimated time from posts I have seen in the past is two hours or less if I recall correctly. This is overly simplfied as I have given it but those are the steps.

Sincerely, John

change of e-mail address

Guys, If any of you have tried to e-mail me direct it may have gotten messed up. We recently changed service providers and I thought we had our accounts and addresses corrected to reflect this. I just learned this was not the case and I'm sorry if this has caused any confusion.

Thanks for understanding, John

Okay... . we need an adjustable regulator..... anybody have connections with a auto paint shop? I'm pretty sure those guys/gals need to use 'em every now and then.....

I'm buying all the stuff needed to tab, just in case my pin has backed out and the jig won't help me.

Let's be like Will Smith and get Jiggy with it. (BAD joke)

Matt

I will bring the adj regulator/air line and the tabs just in case. So based on research poll it looks like we will all go with the jig method (approximately 50/50), unless we see evidences of other problems.

We need to figure how many total are coming and if we are going to have enough time to do every body. If we run longer than expected do we have a back up plan?

Micah

Game Plan

Just an Idea, we have 6 people right? Maybe a few helpers who have done it before in case we run into a problem. Well, what if instead of doing each truck from beginning to finish, we ran three crews? Consisting of 2 people each, 1 Group to disassemble, 1 group to work the Jig and actually take care of that KDP, and one group to reassemble. Or (Idea # 2) we have 3 groups with a staggered start 2 guys working on 2 trucks each (probably their own). Staggered start so each group needs different tools at different times. So once all three groups start 3 trucks will be worked on simultaneously. Then repeat for the second truck... Just a couple ideas.
