This is not any thing against Keating, he is a true sportsman, not wanting to run a single, and this is what drag racing is about. Remember we were there first to put on a show for Dennis, and second to win a race. We didn’t try and rotate the earth on the earlier passes, but worked on getting a totally new combination sorted out. When we were lucky enough, to have some one of Charles Stewart’s status assisting the program, you follow that knowledge, and we were using this as a test session.
Many that looked at the data, on the runs know that this motor has some serious steam, and is capable of great times, but we take small steps and put the pieces on the puzzle in place one at a time. The speculation of what if Keating had of stayed in it, is countered by what if I had stayed in it . I have a lot of experience behind the wheel, and made the best judgment call to click it for the win, there was nothing to work with as far as track. I am impressed with the Judgment of my opponent also, to click it early, there is always another day to race. As far as what might have been, on a good track, I firmly stand by the performance that this combination has exhibited, the motor stalls the converter 800 rpms higher then the last motor, that real power. We saw on the data logger a drop in 600 rpms of drive shaft from the spot where I clicked it, to the finish line, which is 15% or 21 mph at the 1000 foot mark . enough about what might have been.
We are going to enjoy racing this car , for the next few months , and are intent on running the NHRA MOPAR Mile High Nationals in super gas or super street , and holding on to the next weekend and running the Denver diesel race . I will be running heads up against Dustin and Stott Bentz. There was talk of a spot, but Charlie is confident of the performance, and declined, instead choosing to run heads up. See you there
