Has anybody put one of these beasts in their 3G truck? We just ordered one up to be installed on Tuesday and wonder where you put the "unit" thingy? Any good spots that look good and don't get in the way?

Not a bad deal... . $290 insalled for 2 docking stations, one in the truck and one in the boat! That's after the $50 rebate from Sirius.

Does the docking station come with some kind of mount? I see you have the auto, so you'll have some floor space. Possibly a gps mount or something similar. I have a phobia about drilling holes in my truck that I might regret later. Someone makes a mount that sits up on the dash on a sandbag that articulates to whatever position you want.

Post a pic of what this thing looks like.

Congrats on the new truck.

The mounting thingy (at least the one pictured on the website) is atrociously gross. It looks like a space monster freak. The more I think about this, the more I think I can do without it! There's no way I'm going to drill into the floor of the truck and then lose all that foot space down there. There's several times a week someone sits up there and will knock the crap out of it! I'm not sure where else they can mount it, but we'll see.

I'm getting nervous chicken legs with this whole thing. Especially the boat... ..... ah!:{

Forget it. I'm out.

They won't use anything but the stock mount that comes with the unit which is godawful ugly and in the way. The will only mount it to the floor which I don't want. On top of it all, the cost to install it on the boat just went up by $200!:--)

I'm done. Sticking with CDs. Woo hoo. Oo.

I'd just get an aftermarket replacement receiver and put it in the dash. I've learned to do it right the first time and not worry about it. It makes me much happier with the things I buy. I bet you could put a new receiver in the boat somewhere too.

What exactly is the "unit thingy" you are talking about?? If you are referring to the satelite tuner, I put mine under the rear seats. Actually, it's mounted under the rear seat back cushion -- there's a handful of empty space back there and it does not interfere with the metal fold out flat floor, the storage underneath, or the seat movement. I can take a photo for you if you wish, but I'm not sure we are talking about the same thing.

Ohhhhhhh... ... that's not at all what I thought you were talking about. Hmmm... . now I see why you don't want to install it. Have you considered just changing your head unit to a sirius ready one? Then all you'd need would be the receiving unit and an antennal. The receiving unit could be mounted anywhere out of sight (like the place I mentioned earlier... . or any other place for that matter. You'd also need an antenna... .

Trust me..... once you have digital satellite, you won't play your CDs nearly as much.

I'm not going to do what we had originally planned with both the truck and the boat. I'm going to wait it out and see what is offerred in the future. I'm thinking the head unit is the way to go but don't want to pay the extra $400 they want for that on top of all the rest. Then there was the issue with the boat... ... . I'll look into it some more later on. I do want it eventually, just not in such a hurry that it looks like crap in the truck.

Just writing to make sure you know that the picture you posted has the docking station laying on it's side. I have the XM Delphi unit mounted directly underneath the first passenger side vent and it works great. Doesn't get in the way or anything.

SV,

Do you have any pictures? Those would be very helpful so I could print them out and bring them to the bonehead installers (or just do it myself). Thanks.

The Kenwood picture I posted is the ugly mount that Kenwood supplies for it's display unit. I like Kenwood, but geez that thing is useless.

PHX ATV,

I start vacation tomorrow. I will take some pics this weekend and be happy to E-mail them or whatever. I live in Tucson and the guys that installed mine did a first rate job. I'm pretty sure the going rate is fairly competitive. The only issue I have with my Delphi is that during the day with the sun shining in the cab, it is difficult to read the unit. But in my mind that is a small price to pay for all the stations you can get!

place to put the " thingy'

I have the Kenwood THINGY mounted right below the dash tuner with 3-M velcro out of the way and very easy to get at . works for me -NO HOLES!

Radio Install

The Mopar Sirius receiver box mounts under the dash by the pedals. Take out two bolts and install the bracket and receiver, then run the cable to the back of the stock radio. It is out of the way and not visible at all. Everything is controlled by the in-dash radio and the steering wheel controls if equipped. The after-market units aren't necessarily that clean for the install.
