Crank sensor from Raneys is a Dorman. Same part at Autozone (instock) $38...not too happy but guess I've got to give it a try.

Raney’s came up when I searched but I noticed theirs wasn’t a Cummins part number, therefore they weren’t one of my recommendations.

Well it is what it is and hopefully I can get old one out (shouldn't be too hard I hope since I replaced it about 10 or so years back. I put anti seize on the o-ring so keeping my fingers crossed) without breaking it. I'm going to give the Dorman a try since its what I have and see where that lands...

Read new Crkp sensor (L M R pins) L to mid 0 ohms, L to R 1005 ohms, M to R 0 ohms.
Old same except L to R 998 ohms. Wasn't very convinced the old sensor was bad. Both batteries disconnected, friggin starter was a RPIA to get out of pocket due to me installing ¾ copper pipe for timing cover vent extend to skid plate. After installing new sensor "and" connecting Edge back up (installer decided not to tell me until I called him from the road, 100 miles out, that he totally disconnected it incase there was a problem with new VP and also didn't put Stealth wire tap cover on new pump left it in glove box = not real pleased with that...) connected batteries, turn key to on, slowly depress and release go pedal it started right up. Still with frequent up/down 50 or less rpms, put in drive and it died...

Needless to say I'm not a happy camper right now. Closed the hood, kicked the tools back in garage, closed the door and here I am right back at square "none". I'm done for today. Home inspection tomorrow for potential new homeowners, so not sure when I'll get back to "the stall mobile" FFFFFFF!!!!!!

Yes he tried one for a 99 that he had in his shop. Really thinking of taking it to a Dodge dealer close by that has always had a diesel Tech. and letting them try to figure out what it is. I hate to think of that but it seems definitely not mechanical more electronic. I'm "hopefully" closing like May 13th and I need my truck to do things here and at new place. I'm at a loss... Thoughts?

Wild guess...
The ECM don't recognize that you put it in gear and therefor does not raise fueling according to the load that the TC puts on.... and it dies.

David, idle valve switches, humm. #1 idle no load - #2 in gear load. Not sure but???
Like David asked anybody know anything about them?

I am wondering if that is an error in the diagram or the diagram is for gas engine. I do know that there is an idle validation switch (valve? maybe they mean validation?) in the APPS circuit and I think some of them have two idle validation switches. I believe that the second one could be used for an accessory such as an aftermarket exhaust brake control.

I don't know this for sure. I do know that one function of the idle validation switch is to give all fueling control to the ECM at idle - the APPS has no input at this time.

1&2 same signal from what I know, fail safe as there is only one other throttle signal. It's the same APPS all the way to 04.5 and I had to change mine.
It is used for the EB for example, also it hands over throttle control to the ECM if the load changes through AC on or load from the Alternator.
* exact name is "idle validation switch"
