Kilby Condensor Guard

Just an FYI... If you order the Kilby condensor guard and intend to install it on an 05, it appears the holes the mounting brackets for the condensor use are slightly off. I had to drill two new holes on the passenger side lower area of the Kilby guard to use the stock mounting arrangement. Overall though, it wasn't too hard, and its a nice looking upgrade.

I just put a condensor guard on my '05. Made a few trips to the drill press to get the holes right. Whole install took a lot longer than it should have.



I emailed Brad Kilby about that and got a reply that he'll look into the '05 install situation.



Overall, a useful product though. It affords some much needed protection to the condensor.

I have been wanting one of these for the more protection to the condenser, but would also like the added protection of small screening for the bugs. Has anyone emailed Kilby about modifying his condenser. Instead of having to do it yourself. It would'nt bother me to pay a little extra for a modified version. Oo.

I got an early "prototype" from Brad a while back and just shot it with some black spray paint. It would be very easy to put some mesh or screen on the guard before installing it. On my '03 it bolted right up, maybe 10 minutes max. If you don't have one of these, you should. I got it after the dealer's tech left two rounded flat areas on my condensor, right about knee level...

Do a search on the 3G forum for "kilby screen". Multiple threads have discussed adding screen material to the Kilby to give better bug/rock protecction.

I installed this condensEr kit on my 04, and agree it was a great kit and loved the extra touch of them including wire to hold it up while you install. Good customer service from Kilby as well. I asked them about bug protection, and they said they made the holes small enough to stop rocks and stones from doing real damage to the condenser fins, however they felt anything finer might impede air flow and cooling to the engine. I'm sure you could rig the screen up from a house window or screened in patio to the guard if you really wanted to and didn't feel the flow was an issue. .

I put the Kilby guard on and then put some screen door screen from Ace hardware in front of that. I got some black aluminum screen and just used some small black ty-wraps to hold it on. It looks good (can't see it with the hood closed) and it is easy to clean. I just brush the bugs right off since it's loose enough to flex a little. I have had no problems with overheating or lack of air flow.

I received my Kilby Condenser Guard today. Still wondering for those that have the guard with window screening if every thing is still a ok, no excessive water temps I hope from lack of air flow. I was going to make a trip to the local Home Depot tomorrow for some black screen and get'r installed, I believe I'm going to like it.

I though Kilby's straightened out the mis-drilled hole issue. I wasn't overly impressed with having to drill holes, especially since it was close to $60 delivered from Geno's. On top of that, the thing vibrates like hell at idle when in gear. I had to stuff foam tape between the Kilby's and the A/C condenser to dampen the sound. I'm concerned the thing is gonna vibrate a hole right in the condenser that it's supposed to protect.

Well I got the screen I needed from Home Depot this afternoon, but have not yet installed the guard. This is the first I've heard of the guard vibrating, and making noise. Does anyone else have this problem, if so sounds like I need to pick up some of that 3M adhesive tape to cushion it.

NOW you tell me. I Just ordered my Condenser Guard today I asked about the hole alignement on the 05s they said DC keeps changing hole locations Honest that is what they said.



Anyone else notice a vibration with your Condenser Guard

DC must be moving the holes. Mine fit perfect. On the vibration, I believe the instructions say to use silicon between the guard and condenser.

I never put anything between my guard and the condenser and have no noise nor vibration. That's odd

Sometimes in bending the screen will get a tad warped where the top and bottom are out farther than they should be. To solve this, slightly bend the screen the opposite direction so that when it's installed, you're preloading the top and bottom against the condensor. This way the center is mounted and the top and bottom aren't moving.

I have had mine on for over 20K miles, first mod I did at 1 week old. Never had any vibration or noise. Excellent product..... Robert

I may be wrong, but I don't remember the Silicone Sealer bit in the Kilby's instructions. The Silicone IS in the instructions for that MPC Grille Guard which is supposed to sit on top of the condenser and rad and be compatible with the Kilby's. It isn't: not without drilling additional holes. I bought 'em both and put the Kilby's on first because I had no sealer. When I went to install the MPC, it wouldn't fit without drilling even more holes in the Kilby's. I gave up and instead of returning the thing to Geno's, I gave the MPC to my buddy who helped me put my J&J Millenium boards on (he has an '03 Cummins).



BTW, the area(s) that vibrate on the Kilby's are at extreme top and bottom of the condenser. The thing is apparently curved slightly away from the condenser in those areas as there is no way to attach it at the extreme upper/lower edges and it would surely hole the condenser in no time from all that motor vibration. I put the foam (cardboard at first) in the gaps, and it dampened the vibration. It almost sounded like a transmission groan (i. e. , trans to motor bolts loose) because it was so loud at idle in gear at a traffic light.

Had to drill new holes in mine, so it would fit, but it wasn't that big a deal. I suppose it is pretty hard for any company, that deals with our CTD's, to figure out where the Chrysler assembly line will put the holes.



I don't have the vibration in mine, and I don't see a problem with vibrating a hole in the condenser. It bolts onto the support brackets, and really only touches the fins. Doesn't come near any condenser tubes.



I would still recommend this product to fellow TDR members. You either have or will bend the h*** out of your condenser fins if you don't have a guard. .
