I did search but couldn't find where anyone had got rid of the key-in-ignition chime on an '06 without killing the door closed sensor. This is one of my all time pet peeves. It had to go. So I looked up the wiring diagrams on the BodyBuilder web page. After a lot of searching I found what I was looking for. On the left side of the steering colunm is the ignition electrical assembly. The two violent wires (each with a different tracer) are the key-in sensory wires. So, I cut the wire suppling current. No chime, Ignition comes on, motor won't start and ignition won't go back off. Reconnect, cut other violent wire. Same deal. Tried all kind of wiring tricks but nothing worked. So I reconnected everything back up. No simple cutting of wires like on the older trucks.

Next I when about looking at the key assembly itself. There is a small hole on the under side of the key assembly that has a spring latch to remove the key assembly. Use a screw drive, or the like, to push up on the release with the ignition in the on position, and the key/lock can be removed. Now, if you look at the assembly end on, you will see a pin that the key pushes toward the steering column which actuates the chime sensor. I couldn't remove the pin, but I found a way to deactivate it.

With the key assembly in hand, you will notice that there is a spring loaded pin that stops the rotation of the key barrel in the axillary position. Use a finger nail to push in the pin and turn the key backwards beyond the axillary position and the key lock mechanism comes out. Now, on this smaller barrel, you will see a shinney silver collar. This holds in a small black pivoting mechanism which the key pushes on and then pushes the above mentioned pin out to activate the chime. Use a small screw driver to remove the silver collar and pivoting mechanism so the key can't push the pin out. Put in all back together and the chime is no more.

There is a catch tough. Even with this mechanism removed, the chime will still work with the key in the axillary position and the door open. This is one of the reasons I wanted to kill the chime, to play the radio with the doors open. (Doesn't D/C know that every single person alive with a truck does this?? Anyway, I figured I could put a unswitched hot wire to the radio and a toggle switch between the switched and unswitched radio power source so I could use the radio with the key in the off position. But I'm open to ideas. Hopefully, this is helpful to anyone wishing to get rid of the ding-ding. I wanted to takes pictures, but I need to get the truck back together in a hurry. If anyone is interested in photos let me know.
