Do I need to be concerned about the killer dowl pin on my early 02 engine. I see BD has the cure for it on their website so thought I had better ask.![]()
How can you tell an old cover from a new cover ??? Take the cover off.
Why is the new cover OK... . What changed ? The new covers have a casting feature that prevents the pin from backing out.
And , Any Mexico Engines affected??? Who knows, the covers look the same on the outside.
I know, lot's of questions, But , owning an 02 , I find it hard
to do the KDP for a remote " 1 of many good " problem.

The old cover is flat over the pin.
The new style cover is raised and has a grind out in the back to fit the pin, and the front is smaller.
Cummins has a tab that will cover the kdp for a couple bucks.
Make sure to check the book for torque spec's on the bolts, i think most are around 18 INCH POUNDS not foot pounds, i found out the hard way on the oil pump, Busted off a tab at 18 ft lbs. $200 mistake... .....
Before I dig out he shop manuals and such, what all is involved in R/R the front cover? What other stuff needs to be removed to get to it? Radiator? Fan? Pulleys? Balancer?
Trying to figure if it is a 2 hour job or a weekend job to check this out.
Thanks

Less than 3 hours. The fan gete removed without disturbing the radiator. tehn it's all nuts, bolts and a seal.
