Anyone have any experiance with the KIT Extreme trailers or other KIT products?

We just bought a KIT Extreme 31TXU and mostly got it because my wife really likes the pop outs. I'm not too sure this was a wise buy. There were other toy haulers I liked better, but decided to let her win this one.

Thanks,

Chris

Chris:

I owned a small Kit TT while I was in college in the late '80s. I also toured the factory in Idaho. The one I had was a good product, not high end, but a well-built unit. I don't know about their current construction methods but they were wood framed at the time I owned one.

Kit is an old company, one of the originals that dates back to the '50s. They must have been doing some things right to have survived the tough times of the RV industry for appoximately 50 years.

I've known a couple of guys that have owned Kit Patio Haulers and they were the best haulers overall that I have seen. I was very impressed with the the features and the way they were built. In fact I am going to look at a used one later this week.

I've had two Kit products. The first was a 1973 15' Kit trailer. Out of the 20 or 30 old trailers we looked at, the Kit was the only one that hadn't leaked. Used it for 4 years and bought a 1995 Kit Companion 23JT. Used this trailer for 3 years and had no problems with it. Build quality seems above average.

Hope this helps

I have a '96 30HF Kit 5vr, quality wise it ranks up there above average, have had a few problems, 3 way water heater tank sprung a leak had to replace, AC had to be repaired, slide came out of adjustment and seems to be at the max limit for the 15" tires for the weight, they went to 16" on the '97's.

I like Alpenlites & HitchHiker, think they are two of the best. I had a '92 Komfort, great trailer with NO problems and a '94 Fleetwood Wilderness with major problems. I will never own another Fleetwood product (Terry, Prowler, Wilderness and several other lesser know names manfacured under Fleetwood).

Remember that Kit went bankrupt earlier this year and were bought out by Extreme, which is using the Kit name, so you really can't compare the older Kit's to the new Kit Extremes.

KIT Extreme Ownership

tschwab,

What I have heard about KIT from my dealer is that the employees now own the company. Usually a good thing, but in this case maybe not. My 03 has a 5 year warranty but the 04 will only have a 2 year warranty.

One of my worries was of the aesthetics of the cabinetry and other things I saw here and there. Workmanship did not seem up to par for a trailer costing about $40,000. Corners looked like they were cut on real basic things, which caused me to worry about things I couldn't't see.

Other problem I had was with the disconnect between what my sales guy was telling me I would need to tow it and with what I was finally told I'd need by a tech. I'm a newbie at the trailer thing.

Anyway dealer has promised to fix any and all blemishes in cabinets etc. The towing part was worked out at an RV place in town. We took it out for the 1st time this past weekend and it seems to tow pretty well.

Like I said before I would of liked another brand, but because this one came with two pop outs, and an ice maker I let my wife win on that one because none of the other toy hauler trailers we were looking at had any of those features.
