i hooked up a switched hot wire to my ksb. can activate it when ever i want. scott says it will not give additional timing across the board but it seems to me that it does. so here is a timing adv device, built into our motors (from the factory), just sitting there waiting to be utilized. can you guys think of any reason to give timing intermittently????

or for that matter to take timing at a certain point in a run????? get my point? if it gives timing, you could always use it the opposite way - deactivate it to take timing

i have heard of the chips adv the timing at high rpms - i dont understand this - i am used to taking timing at high rpm's (race gas, alky, nitro). is diesel that weird?

all i have really used it for so far is to bump my idle speed when the engine is hot and i have the a/c on - works great for that

bet there are other ways this circuit can be used... .

If you are shutting off the power to the KSB you are retarding your timing, when you switch it back on the timing goes back to where it should be.

oh really? so it is normally hot (the wire going to it) except when it is really cold out? and when it is really cold they kill power to it and retard the timing?

that sounds backwards to me...

so you are saying that you believe i should run with it activated all the time? (should be)

thanks, don

ps - when cruising and playing around with it i notice that apon activation the boost decreases by a pound or two and the egt decreases a little as well

you can definately hear the timing come in, from idle up to 1800, it does not matter where you hit it you can hear it

Tim it must be late for ya;). The intercooled ksb which is what Don has, works opposite, normal timing unplugged or not energized, advances when energized. The early ksb (nonIC'd) needs to be energized to run normal timing/case pressure. De-energized it will lock the case pressure and run advanced.

Don, the high hp VE guys have been doing this for many years now.

doing what bill? using it at low rpm? high rpm? all the time?

i would think if you were gonna use it all the time you would just set the static higher and not use the ksb at all?

Either unplugging or hot wiring the ksb (depending on your ksb style) for competition use, dyno runs, possibly drag racing apps. For example, I dynoed a bunch of 340-360+-hp runs, unplugged and cooled my ksb and then rattled off a few 430hp runs, same day/same dyno. KTA once ran a bunch of high 400hp runs, unplugged and cooled his ksb, ran a 627hp run, same day, same dyno.

Would engaging the KSB when cruising(newer style, advancing the timing) give any more fuel mileage? I'm not talking about doing this loaded, just empty cruising.

i think that depends on how much timing you already have in it

didnt scott say that 27° was optimum for most of these things?

dunno, when i activate mine while cruising it looses a pound or two of boost and about 50° egt

does that mean that more fuel is being burned in the cyl instead of in the ex? (better efficiency)?
