Kubota diesel?

I'm looking to buy a compact tractor... diesel, of course. Overall, I like the Kubotas. Anybody have any practical experience/opinions on their lil 3-banger 25-30 HP diesel engines? Who makes 'em? How do they perform? Easy to maintain?



(I won't ask about BOMBs, although I'm sure somebody here has done that! :-laf )

I like the green stuff personally, but mostly because I used to be a dealer. The compact JD is made by Yanmar. Kubota makes their own engines as far as I know, and they do make a nice range of tractors. I would not be afraid of a Kubota by any means. Much like our trucks, try to buy from a dealer who knows his a??hole from his elbow, as it makes all the difference in the world when small problems don't escalate into big ones.

weve got a JD 455 diesel, its OK, power is lacking and the hydrostat trans SUC*S! good fwd, but backing it has NO power or speed.



Kubota B2400 1800hrs No complaints yet, (24hp 3cyl diesel) just change the fuel/oil like a cummins and its good to go. hydrostat trans is holding strong.

Kubota ZD28 (28hp 3cly diesel) 130 hrs and 4 months of use (0 turn mower) fast!!! and it cuts just as quick as you can move it. It leave some blades of grass beat but not bad considering how fast youre mowing. These motors are awesome!!! like a cummins the body will fall apart 4 the motor! s



GO ORANGE, resale is awesome on them also. IMO keep away from the green/blue and others. heck the grasshopper 0turns run a kubota diesel

Kubota makes their own engines and they are great! I have a TG1860 mower with the 3 banger. They use a similar engine in their zero turn mowers, their compact utility tractors and the new RTV utility vehicle. There is a nice little "power screw" on the injector pump that is fun to play with!

I plan to soon trade my Ford/New Holland for a 5700 Kubota. They make great equipment!

The Yanmar engine is also equally as good in my opinion. We have two air compressors on our service trucks with a Yanmar and we sell Komatsu/Kalmar forklifts that use the Yanmar engine in the 4000-6000 lb capacity lifts. It is a GREAT engine with incredible torque. It is a 2. 7 liter natural aspiration 4 popper. Japan makes great diesels. Just stay away from the cheap chinese knock offs!!

I won't dispute your observations regarding the 455, except to say that it is NOT a compact utility tractor, it is a garden tractor. They were using Kanzaki transaxles, which are a division of Yanmar, and were bulletproof.

I own a Lawn business and while shopping around this spring I inquried about the diesel engine (Diahatsu) offered in the brand of mower I use and my dealer said they were a real good engine. I asked him his thoughts on the Kubota and his reply was... "best small diesel engine out there. "

i have a g1900 20hp kubota w-a 3cyl diesel 60'' deck thing runs like a raped ape you get in that tall grass and that thing pufs alittle smoke and chugs rite through. mine has 900 hrs and it runs great . i mow 3 achers and i dont use much fuel so i would recomend it -Josh

I have a B2150 $WD tractor that is 24 engine HP-18 PTO, and love it. No problems.

Also use a g1800 front deck and it is very good too. It has 1100 hrs. The tractor has 850hrs.

DieselNut: Would the statement above include the Farm Pro line of compact tractors. They sell new around here for 3700 (2wd) and around 6500 for 4wd. Been trying to decide between new and used and in my case money is the overriding factor. If I go used it will probably be a small Farmall as they seem to be the best buy around here.

I have a 1989' new holland skid steer with a 3 cyl. 30 hp. Kubota engine. Great little engine. Always starts in -30 deg. temps when my gas tractor won't. Has a lot of hours on it and never any problems. Very easy on fuel too. Larry.

Dad has had a Kubota L 235 DT for 25 years and it has been an outstanding Tractor. Do not even hesitate to buy a Kubota!

I have been running Grasshopper mowers for years with the Kubota diesels, 2 with the 21 HP and presently 1 with the 28 HP engine. I work the hell out of them running a 72'' mulching deck, a 60" aerator, 61" vacuum deck and a 60" snowblower in winter. All any of these engines asked for was fuel and not much of it. I change oil every 100 hours and it is always right on full. I use the same oil as I put in the cummapart. The 28 HP looks good when it is really working as there is a nice black cloud behind the machine. I have found that the 1st. valve adjustment is usually required. Other than that I have not had a problem with the Kubota engine. They are used in a lot of applications.

I know they are different but our trans leaks hyd fluid like it drinks fuel. 2 dealers are clueless to why it is leaking



I also run a small Landscape Maintenance & Snow Removal company and just today the B2400 (older bro to the 5000-7000 series?) was used to load dirt/bricks into my 3yard dumptruck compact and powerful, two things that make ME stick out from the competition. yeah they have the skid-steer's but I dont tear up the grass and is easily moved around. HECK we dropped it into a basement once to help assist the backhoe. a good 12hr of shovels & wheelbarrow only took 3 with the KUB.

Talking about the skid steers, we have some rental property and had some dirt hauled in. I had a friend who owed me some time/favor, and asked him to help me move it and level it. Had to go from the front to the rear.

He said he would really show up the Kubota.

What he didn't realize, was that I had a higher travel speed. He could haul more each trip. We divided the pile in two equal parts and started.

When done I had moved mine and had it level sooner than he. I had a box scraper on the back.

He has FAR better hydraulics.

I had own a 455 in the past with the same problem of backing. If you take the toe of your boot and put it under the forward pedal and pull up with it, the tractor will back up faster and stronger. You will notice the reverse pedal will be pulled down below the floor pan of the tractor too. I have looked for ways to adjust the travel in the pedals but no luck. Might try adding something to the top of the reverse pedal so you depress it futher to get the speed up.

Love the little Kubota

I have a BX23 Tractor-Loader-Backhoe (TLB). I can't say enough how pleased I am with the machine. It fits nicely into my 12' X 16' shed. It sounds like you want a little bigger machine in the 7800 series and they are very nice as well.

The thing with the BX23 is you can have the bucket, backhoe, and a mid mount mower attached all at once. Removing/installing the front end loader and backhoe takes only minutes.

I just got a toothbar from Markham Welding in NC for my little bucket and what a difference it makes in diging up dirt and moving piles. Two bolts is all it takes to secure. Markham Welding has lots of nice stuff.

If youre looking for a TLD (tractor loader backhoe) dont mess with the BX series, go straight to the B21, L39 a little more money but they are commercial built and are still user friendly. IMO thats the route we should have went and now were searching for a L35 (05 model is now the L39). you wont have the quick de-tach for the bucket but the backhoe is off in minutes and they are capable of running 3pt setup





BTW how do you turn the pumps up???? :-laf

Kubota does make a great tractor/diesel. I would def. spend some time dealer shopping because some are good, and some are not. I have a New Holland tc40DA and really looked hard at the 'Bota's but my local dealer did not have a real good rep. . If you really want to go overboard, check out www.tractorbynet.com They have way more info than will ever need. Now I wonder if Quadzilla will make me a Xzillaraider for my New Holland?
