I am interested in a 2011 Dodge diesel 2500 4X4. However I like the 20 inch wheels on the 1500. They are not an option on the 2500. I would have to get them after market. The dealer told me that the larger tires would decrease my MPG big time. I ask him if that is true, then why would Dodge put them on the 1500. He didn't have an explanation except that's what people want. Which brings me to my question. Does anyone have any experience changing to larger wheels? Did it improve/decrease the mileage?

you vill get less mpg if they are width is bigger thats true and if you go bigger they may last shorter
cause bigger wheels will trie to find tracks on road abit more. . i have 315-70-17 my friends tried both stock and same as me, he was talking about up to 2l/100km more dont know if thats true but it sure was more hungry

If you want 20" wheels don't waste your money on a Ram 2500 with mighty Cummins engine.

Replacing the wheels selected by Ram engineers for handling and weight carrying appropriate to the truck with a set of teenager's fancy wheels would be much like castrating a beautiful stud horse. You'll render the fine new Ram truck impotent and useless.

20" wheels and tires would offer less weight carrying capacity and provide poor handling due to the soft sidewalls.

Or you could buy a Ford. I believe they have a 20" wheel option. Harvey is correct, your truck will work best with the OEM wheels.

oem wheels are not the best???? many aftermarket wheels are stronger and better... just look at the ratings and go with a good mfg... ...

I will go the other way, my mighty Cummins has not been castrated by going with aftermarket whels. It all depends what you will be using your truck for. You can easily find the weight raiting for aftermarket wheels and tires. I am not a big fan od 20"s but if thats what you want then go for it.
