This is slightly off topic, but related anyway. Ever since I had my eyes done, I've become extra paranoid about protecting my eyes. It used to be, with glasses, I never would bother with safety glasses or goggles while doing something mechanical. I remember one time when I was prying on something with a screwdriver and it slipped and came up and hit the right lens of my glasses and put a nice scratch in it. But nowadays, with no glasses to rely on, I've been wearing safety glasses to do even the most simple mechanical tasks. I feel "naked" without them. Sometimes I'll go b. s. with the vehicle mechanics at work, and I'll find them under a semi on the lift, removing a driveshaft or whatever. They're looking up, hefting an impact wrench, and bits of crud and rusty dirt are falling all around them, and they're not wearing any eye protection. I would NEVER do that nowadays! Anyway, I recommend y'all keep some safety glasses handy when you're out in the garage, running the weed whacker, etc.
