As the temperature rises in the southern California desert, the dunes trips must come to an end until it begins to cool off again. With a local off road club our typical trip has always been to Glamis, CA so out of the blue, and having just been to Glamis over Easter, we decided to try out the “Southern Dunes” which mostly consists of areas called Buttercup and Gordon’s Well where we had never been. With a smaller group going we tried for a quick and inexpensive trip. Staying in a local Yuma hotel instead of bringing the toy haulers and tents helped beat the late season heat and really panned out nicely. We pretty much just duned it most of the morning and into the afternoon on Saturday, then some locals we met at the dunes were kind enough to have us out to a great spot on the Colorado river to cool down and rinse off.
All the rigs did well, with no breakage other than a new knock in my CTD which I’m attempting to diagnose currently. Check out this link to join in the fun with that!
I’ll try and post some pics. from the trip for fun as I get them transferred onto my computer.
