Well, I'm getting ready for my late season muley hunt. Starts on the 21st in Nevada's area 14. I'll be up in the Diamond Range out of Eureka. I haven't been sleeping well with all the anticipation! Growing up in Pennsylvania, I know a lot of the easterners here are wondering what the big deal is. In Nevada, you have to draw a tag. It's like winning the lottery. I've been very lucky and pulled tags for antelope, elk, and deer in the last three years. I'll be using a converted Swedish Mauser in 6. 5x55 with a Barnes 130 grain bullet on top of RL22. I've had pretty good results at the range with it, right around MOA. Out to 300 yards, I'll be good. Also taking the Ruger M77 in . 338 along just in case. That'll be Barnes 160 TTSX over H414. Same accuracy there. Just for fun, the 870 will be along in case there are chukar in the area. I know there are, it's just a matter of getting to them!
Antlers should be really good this year, as there was a lot of moisture early in the year. A beautiful 14x9 was just killed on the road between Reno and Carson City about a week ago. Damn shame. :{ Now for the packing...
