Outside air & egts

Exciting times, the B1 turbo sounds great so I want the B1 Super Jumbo Bomber II+:D.



I must say though, that I've been experimenting on fresh air systems for the past year and while my findings are incomplete, I have found very little egt reduction using outside air. Fresh air taken from the cowl or from my ram air-under the bumper system vary about 2 degrees F. Underhood air temps go very high at idle but range only 2 to a maximum of 10 degree higher at the midpoint of a BHAF, K&N conical, or K&N 1rst generation style air filter when speeds of 40mph or above are maintained. The test truck is a 24V, with stock HX40 16cm, JetHot coated ATS manifold, Horton fan and 4" turbo back exhaust. Rear wheel hp ranges from 300 to 500hp on #2. Low boost smoke after stoplight idling, using hot underhood air, does increase noticeably in the summer.



The low speed hot air is a plus in the winter for warm up and smooth, slow speed operation. I plan to duct the heat from the turbo/exhaust area to my filter box for winter use.



Though disappointed in my findings I realized that if 10 degree cooler induction air would reduce egts 150 degree like some systems have claimed then we should see wild egt swings during seasonal temperature changes, say a 60 degree day compared to a 90 degree day. What do you think?

Rodger, Take your truck back out and Pull 24,000 GCVW up 8% grades untill you get the Radiator AND Intercooler working a little and you will see your under hood air Temps shoot up over 100 deg's higher than outside air. I had also thought that at higher speeds it would make little difference under the hood. Especially during the winter. My latest tests were at 75 MPH and 35 +/- 2 deg's. Untill I worked the truck hard I also saw (at cruise speeds) under hood temps closer (20 deg) to Outside air temps.



I currently not selling airsystems only testing any way possible to lower Heavy towing EGT's. So far I can stay WOT at 450 HP.



I was shocked by the difference when climbing the hill. I am at 6,000 feet so the truck/Turbo has to work a little harder. I switched from a stock box with K&N to a BHAF style to increase CFM's and because my earlier egt tests with the B-1 were at 65+ deg's and I wanted to simulate that air intake temp to check any improvements in lower exhaust temps. Next time I test I will try it again and take both air systems with me at the same time. Although my last tests were only 1 day apart when I switched the air to a Ducted style.

Are you sure about that Kurt, I am not doughting you just envious. I haven't found a combo to get even close to that.
 
Where can I find more info on the B-1. I have searched on every search engine and I haven't found a thing about it. How much for it and who sells it.

My truck Dynoed in Pahrump at 425 and that is not the max power that I am making. And I can run WOT with a 35ft trailer up 8% with out backing out because of EGT's.



If YogiBear would get off his Furry B*& and work a couple of days we would have some more Towing Egt Info... ... I think I will call his local Liquor store and have him CUT OFF!!! LOL:rolleyes: ;) ;) ;) :D (1 Point for KWURT):D

IF, T. A. Slowkwurt would burn a little propane to heat his shop, I wouldn't be laid up with pneumonia!! :( :mad: I should be back on the rd. next week, will let you know.

Yogi' Funny you should mention heating my shop... It sure seems like there is much less "Hot Air" around since you left.



I was thinking about buying a Oil Burning furnace and then just put a catch pan under your truck!!! LOL;) :D
