LCD clocks/LCD HDTV’s

Recently I read (Trailer Life, irv2.com etc) something about the LCD screens of some of the newer HDTV’s being damaged when the TV is left in the RV during winter storage.

I have two LCD “Atomic” clocks in my RV. They have never been removed from the RV during winter storage. This AM it was minus 11 degrees and both clocks are working OK and keeping perfect time.

As I have exchanged my “old” TV for a new LCD HDTV I am wondering if anybody knows how/why/if the TV LCD screen is in fact more susceptible to cold weather damage as the LCD clock?

Thank you for your input

Richard

i read that article also, it turns out the one he talked to was not a engineer but a customer relations person. it is ok to leave lcd devices in the trailer

Also the owners manual will/should show two temp ranges one for operating temps one for storage. The manual may be available at the manuf. web site for download/viewing before you buy it

I too have an LCD display toughbook lap top in my car I use at work. I have used it it very extreme temps. I has a built-in circuit that allows a short warm-up period in extreme cold before the display comes on fully. The screen actually says "warming up". I have had my LCD flat screen TV in my 5er for the past winter and so far through this one. No ill effects.

Good luck...

Just bring it up to room tempeture before use as that article said. I think that a lot of this information is still out to lunch.

Thanks fpr all your input! I sent an email to the HD LCDTV manuf. Their reply was that for storage it be good down to -20*c (-4*f). Just bring it up to room temp before enerigizing.
