Almost a year ago (12-6-19) I ordered and on arrival replaced the subject original 25 year old leaking drain valve my '95. Suddenly the hard/no start condition was cured.

Now, the new assembly is leaking. I just discovered that's the problem for my recent no start and pushed the drain up a couple times, letting it snap down (into shut off position) thinking that would reseat the seal. But it doesn't seem that it worked. I did place a container under the drain just to see how much it's leaking.

In all likelihood I'll windup dropping the filter and seeing what I can see.

Any thoughts on why a new drain would fail in just under a year. Wonder what Geno's warranty period is.

Thanks,

RonR

This is a common issue. Mine failed three times. I found a Wix 33391 that has a plug in the bottom of it to drain if you need it and does away with the junk drain valve.

Here’s a good thread on it.

I had the issue with the 2001.5 RAM and it was an under sized o-ring between the valve and the filter housing and not the valve it's self. As I recall the valve mounts with just one bolt.

We’re talking 12-valves, SK. The valve and sensor screw into the bottom of the spin-on fuel filter.

Yes, they did. But, they offered a valve kit with new o-rings to repair it and they didn’t leak that often or that bad.

The first time mine failed I was sitting in a drive-thru and a fellow walked up to my passenger window and said I had something leaking. In the time I sat there it had leaked a puddle of diesel fuel @ 12’-15’ diameter. I had smelled diesel while I was sitting there, but it was at a truck stop so I didn’t think anything about it.

'96, My new valve leaked when I installed it, I grabbed a different oring out of a new filter if I recall.

I figured the oring was just not correct or it was my error on install. But sounds like it was the oring in the kit.
