OK - this is from the Dodge Service manual for my 01... ... look at what it says about cracks on the belt!!!! I thought the cracks across it meant it should be replaced - NOT SO... ... .
Yes this truck has the same belt on it at 408,000 Kms. The 93 had 160,000 and the dollarshop said it should be replaced. Think that it is just a method for them to make more money from the vehicles that go through the shop.
I replaced mine at 125K miles. It rides in my spare parts box in case the current one comes apart. I'm currently at 292K. That's 167K on the one I'm running and it's still in good shape.
Awesome info. I have a new belt under back seat that I was going to install in spring. I'll take a good look at her someday when it starts to warm up here. Like in May... . :-laf
I just replace my belt this mourning with the best the autoparts had for sale. The old one is in great shape but it will be a spare for vacation. The interesting thing is the new belt does not squeel on motor shut down like the old one did.
I had a gatorback belt start to come apart on me the other day @ 145,000 mi. When I put a new belt on, it too was tracking off the AC compressor. Used a non AC belt to get home. I put on a new tensioner and it solved the problem.
I got a little over 150K out of my belt. Put on a new belt and then the tensioner went out and ruined my new belt. A good rule of thumb may be to replace the tensioner when you replace the belt.
