Heres my LED lights. I just bolted them to the tailgate on the lower tab of it. wired it up to the license plate wire and ground it.

Also have a side red marker and a LED side signal by the front fender

Has anyone ever done the roof clearance lights with white or amber LED lamps? I'd like to convert mine.....



Also - anyone know the value of the resistor that Truck-Lite puts inside their LED assemblies? I tried to look at one cross eyed in the rain on Saturday on Torque This' truck... but didn't have paper to write down the colors, etc... . I'd like to make my own LED assemblies... .

I saw the replacement push-in bulbs that are LED at Autozone the other day. They should fit in the clearance lights.

On edit: I just re-looked at the specs, and it seems like the lens is too big, but the LED module could still work.....

I have been playing around with homemade led lights. I am just finishing a 114 led strip I will put under the tailgate. Try here for a start on what resistor to use. http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/Bill_Bowden/led.htm



I have had good luck with 100 ohm when using 5, 2 volt red leds in series. On the truck this puts me at 20mA (recomended) at 12v and 40mA (bombed) at 14V.

I have been playing with 555 timers to get them flashing and such. I don't want it to look like a carnival or worse a ricer, but some of the stuff looks fun.



I have got all my leds on ebay. some are real dim but others have been pretty bright.

Prices Vary wildly all of the ones I got were in lots of 20 - 2000 pieces.

I'll look into it on Friday morning, the local Fleet-Pride is a Truck-Lite dealer. The side markers I got were only 7 bucks a piece!

Wow! That's cheap... . heck I've seen LED replacement lamps without lenses/housings for a lot more than that.

No!

I just moved the quick release tailgate straps up to the top where the tailgate locks onto the bed. It does make the tailgate lay with a slight angle, but no big deal for me.

I experimented with those L. E. D. bulb replacements for the cab lights ,didn't care for them as for they were not as bright. I wish truck-lite or peterson would just take the whole lense and fill it full of L. E. D. 's to make it bright, the same should go for the rear taillights,(like some of the cadillacs have) third brakelight and the front turn signals. I know too ,that some of the amish carriage builder's have been getting white L. E. D. headlights also,which I would not mind having for back-up lights. I have alot of peterson brand L. E. D. that are used and possibly for sale. They're the lights that fit the dually fenders and the tailgate. I think I have 9 red and 9 yellow but will have to check to make sure... ... . anyone interested..... john

The amish folks must be saving their egg money for the white LED headlights.....



Last I knew... the PAR housing replacements were like $90 a piece.



They justify the cost with increased battery life... . I just think LED's are way cool.

I know those L. E. D. headlights aren't cheap. I might buy a set to see how well they work. I too thought the L. E. D's are pretty cool since their introduction about 5 yrs ago, back then ,they were really expensive,they were not selling that quick. Now they're selling like hotcake's. Most of the L. E. D. 's on my truck have been on for four yrs. , and no problem with them. If they have a problem ,just take it back and get a new one,most have a lifetime warranty. DEFINATELY MAKE'S YOUR TRUCK LOOK COOL!!!!! ..... JOHN
