I just got done reading where C1B1Diesel gave the history of our dreaded lift pumps. According to the information posted on Dave Fritz's web site for the ISB lift pump, the part number should be 3990082 (kit w/pump#3990105). But it looks like according to his post that the kit part number 3990082 is for the 12v cummins and 3990106 (pump only, no kit) for the 24v????? What am I missing? I did not think the 12v had a lift lift pump?

The next two paragraphs were posted by C1B1Diesel on another thread:

"Service kit 3990082 was updated to include

3990105 (12V). 3938368 (24V) was superceded to 3990106 (24V), but a kit was not created to included the jumper harness,

4025182 must be ordered separatelyat includes the pigtail harness. "

"III. IMPLEMENTATION SUMMARY

The supplier started building pumps with these corrective actions in the first week of May 2001. The latest lift pumps, part number 3990105 and 3990106 when into production"

So what I gather is that the latest and greatest part number for our trucks, for the pump only is 3990106... ... . But it looks like in all the posts everyone on here is talking about you all have been using part number 3990105 (pump only). I am trying to iron this out before monday morning, I need to purchase a new lift pump. If this doesn't make sense I am typing to fast and thinking to slow.....

DodgeBoy,

I just replaced my pump last Sunday with the 3990105 and learned as you did a few days later of the 3990106 pump. So I called Cummins Mid South in New Orleans and was told by the parts Manager that the 106 has not yet been released. I'm not sure about 2000 and up Trucks but I do know that the 98. 5 and 99 models require the pig tail connector as I had to get one when I first replaced my stock Pump.

glad to hear it!!!!!!!

Thanks for the reply... ... . So did they give you any kind of indication of when it would be released? When you bought the 105 you did not buy the kit 3990082, supposedly it includes the pigtail harness #4025182 and 2 sealing washers #3935171. Did ou have Cummins mid-south mail you the pump or did you go pick it up... ... and what did it cost you? So far the closest one I can find is Cummins South in Houston. . I haven't tried them in New Orleans yet. Thanks for the information.

2001 Lift Pump

Dear Sirs:

Don't know if this is of interest or not but just had my lift pump replaced under warranty by the dealer.

Truck is 2001, 17,773 miles, QC, 3500, Auto and 3. 54. The pump did not fail completely but was not producing ENOUGH pressure per mechanic.

Part number used was 5080885AA

That is the correct part # that Dodge uses, however the Cummins part # for now is 3990105.

Jason,

Cummins Mid South will ship the Pump direct to yor home. I dont remimber the part # that the pig tail was but it just plugs into the bottom of the pump and in to the exsisting harness that pluged into the old style pump.

Cummins Mid South Phone # is 1-504-468-3535

The 3990105 pump is now $160. 00 and the pig tail is 10 Bucks tax included.

Now indication on the release date just that they are on order. I would ask them to try the 3990106 first and see if the computer has a release date yet.

DodgeBoy, I think your confusion in C1B1Diesel’s history of lift pump is the meaning of 12v and 24v. The v is for volts. The ISB engines in our Rams are the 12v and ISB engines used in other applications sometimes use 24 volts. I was confused also when I first read the post.

Ok I am having problems with my truck, which involve the lift pump possibly. I replaced it about 5-6 months ago. But today I tried to take off, and I had no power, truck was starving bad. I also have a pusher pump on it back by the fuel tank. I shut truck off and waited, reprimed it a few times then it was ok. I drove about 10 miles, shut truck off then 5 minutes later I left and didnt make it half a mile then it was sputtering again. I pulled over and changed my fuel filter and made it back home. Not sure if that fixed it yet or not. But can my pusher pump be bad and the lift pump cant suck fuel through it? Or? Iam gettin a fuel pressure tester kit tomorrow but, How do I know for sure where the problem is? Are there any other tests that I can try? All the help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks 15w40

YOur right that makes much more sense. With all of us dealing so much with 12 & 24 valve cummins we can all get cunfused easily. Is it true that when we replace our stock lift pump with a new one that we will need the new pigtail harness?

Jason

Well, I just changed out my defective lift pump with P/N 05080885AA. It bolted right on and plugged right in. No additional pigtail. :D
