My 98. 5 with 95450 miles was doing fine until I fixed it. LOL I am stock. I put a fuel pressure light on the dash. It goes off when the pump comes on and stays off even with WOT up hill. I desided to put a pusher pump on too. It is back by the fuel tank and wired into the stock lift pump. When I finished the job I primed it and started it. Well the lift pump was leaking like a sive. It appeers to be leaking from the three mounting bolts. If I disconect the new push pump the leaking stops. The lift pump is running, I can hear it, but no leak. Turn on the pusher pump and it leaks badly.

Any ideas? Tomorrow I will take it off and tighten the top cover. If that does not stop the leaks I will bypass it. What do you think?

Thanks

probably the extra pressure being created . remove the pump cover turn the gasket over and reinstall. check the screen in the pump when you have the cover off. good luck.

FourBarR,

Thanks for the reply. When I took off the pump I found one of the the cover mounting screws tight, one snug and one lose. The screen was very clean but the gasket is a one way only gasket. I could not turn it over because the medal plate covering the impeller is one sided. I cleaned everything and put it back together and no leaks.

By the way I took the pump off from the top by removing the fuel filter first. I read about that here on TDR and it is really the way to go. Much better than removing the starter.

Only problem is the new pump is loud. I mounted pump to plate with rubber bushings and plate to fram with rubber washers between. I guess it just means my exhoust is still stock. LOL

Thanks for the help
