Does anyone know the size of the studs recommended as guide pins when installing the lift pump? on the 12 valve, I have seen where 55mm was recommended for the length, but size of the stud in mm was not included.

I think it should be put in the FAQs. Cause it has been ask a lot.

Thanks.

I tried to find the thread(s) on this on TDR, but had no luck. Googled it, and found:

Thread Stud,M8 x 1. 25 x 40mm

Don't know for a fact that this will work though.

Thanks guys I was a thinking that it was a m8 or 10. /1. 25 Got it now though. Thanks a bunch.

And for the length, its going to be 40-55mm

Now, how do we get it in to the FAQs?

Yes.

M8 x 1. 25 x 55mm with nylon locking nuts (13mm) and lock washers.

In an effort to make this thread more search friendly (I repeat myself in different ways):

Lift Pump Stud
Transfer Pump Stud
Stud to Replace Bolt
2nd Generation Lift Pump Bolt Replacement with Studs
Lift Pump Stud Dimensions =M8 1. 25 x 55mm
Lift Pump Stud Thread
Stud Size = M8 1. 25 x 55mm
Stud Length = M8 1. 25 x 55mm

I used an M8 (8mm) Hardened Automotive Stud with a 1. 25mm pitch that was 55mm long. (M8 1. 25 x 55mm). The stud is threaded at both ends with a small area in the center that is not threaded. The dimensions were just right. If that area in the center were any longer then I most likely would have not been able to adequately tighten the nuts.

I used Permatex #2 to seal the gaskets and the stud threads.

By the way, the cheap *** Chinese Lift Pumps come with crappy gaskets that don't hug the bolt threads. The Dodge factory gaskets look like they are plastic sandwiching a layer of metal. Huge difference in gasket quality.

I used nylon lock hardened nuts, along with a lock washer just for backup. The nuts take a 13mm wrench.

It is so much easier to install the studs, and then stack the gaskets and pump parts.

I went to Kragen and Pepboys and both looked at me like I had horns on my head asking for a generic stud. They both wanted part numbers. Kragen has been taken over by another large parts store chain, and they are eliminating loose nuts and bolts. Gotta have a part number. GRRRRR. Napa probably has the parts. And I know of some independent auto parts stores that probably have them also.

So, while at work in downtown San Francisco, I made my way to Fox Hardware (An ACE Hardware Store), and in their many boxes of nuts and bolts I found they carried Metric Automotive Hardened Studs. and they were about $2 each. This is an old fashioned hardware store that even carries Starrett Tools.

I hope this is helpful and easy to find with the Search tool.

Guldam;

this is what I've been looking and asking for all a long. You just hit a home run. Thank you, Thank you. Now we need it put in the FAQ section.

I too can only get 50mm, in spite of searching several NAPA and Ace stores. Do the 50mm studs work adequately? I'm in no hurry to do this bit of preventative maintenance, and I want the job to be as smooth as possible. Thanks.

Nick.

Nick, I found the 50mm's to be fine. The pump was not on the high point of the lobe. See my write-up for some tips.

Nick if you need nuts just let me know.

Looks like they might be available at Ace. Any nut and bolt place should have them to. I don't know cause I have not looked yet but are they available longer like 60mm?
