You are correct. In refineries we use many different types of motors and engines to make (Diesel). I can think of 15 different processes within the unit I operate that have motors that use the fuel, water, sour water, NH3... as a cooling medium for the motor. That is the product flows through the windings of the electrical armature. These motors are usually sealed, and as stated above, no O2, no boom. Fire triangle, fuel, heat, oxygen, (chemical reaction).
I have yet to see any cold temps with my truck. But working in and for the Oil biz, I would say adding a good anti-gel is the best scenario to prevent damage to the fuel system, or a breakdown. Good discussion.
