Just curious. How many guys with multiple lift pump replacements have had to pay for any after the first one was covered under warranty? My pump was replaced last April and died again last week and stealer ordered a new one and called yesterday to leave message that new one was in. Makes you wonder if he thinks I'm paying for this one. I am taking it in on Monday for replacement. At 62,500 miles should I pay for this one or is the 100,000 warranty still in effect after the first replacement. Thanks, Mike. :{

You should be covered until 100k - no matter how many that takes. I just had my replacement start to go at only 500 miles. :rolleyes: So at this rate (with 40k on the truck), I'm looking at another 120 pumps before I'm out of warranty. :{

120 Pumps?

With the combined capacity of 120 pumps you would have your own pumper truck. Kidding aside, I can't believe that this pump went bad in 12,000 miles. Found it the same way as the last one, too. When I changed my filter, I couldn't get the truck started again and found the pump not running. So I primed the filter housing and when all the air was gone I got the engine to start. I'll probably put the guage on the windshield again for asthetics.

You know it, Phil!!:D

If not for my gauge, I'd probably still be driving around with a bad pump (oh wait... I guess I still am - now that the replacement has decided to puke on me). :{ My truck has run the same all along - just fine. My gauge has been the only tip-off - except for the fuel filter. I've never had the truck start after a fuel filter change without having to give it a lot of pedal to get it going. My original pump was probably bad from almost the beginning. I didn't get a gauge until about 30k into the life of the truck, so I don't know for sure. That gauge is a must-have.

As long as you are under 5/100 you should not pay for the lift pump no matter how many times it goes bad. I've changed out a lift pump and got worse pressure readings with the new one went over all the diag again just to be sure I didn't miss anything and called star and put another lift pump on and got 15psi at idle. I would think they would fix the lift pump they have had enough returned to them to find the problem by now.

I checked my lift pump the other day. Connected it pre-filter and the readings were as follows- starter bump 10. 5psi, idle 10psi, cruising at 50mph 8. 5psi, wot 4. 5psi. So I went to the dealer and they punched it in to the computer and he said it came up as not under warranty. I have 103,000km on the truck, its a 98. 5. these jerks up here want $329 for a new pump, thats for me to install. Phoned Cummins dealer and they want $283 plus $11 for the connector. Going to try and put the carter push pump in and see what that does.

Reinstalled Guage

Guess what. I reinstalled guage and after a half hour of running the pusher came to life. Driving around minding my own business and it cured itself. Can't wait to see if it's gonna quit again. It's going in tomorrow anyway. :(

Seems a little high to me. I thought they were asking about a buck seventy five?:confused:

New pump ordered-under warranty. Tech said I had 14 at idle two weeks ago when he changed out the injector pump. :rolleyes: Can't wait to see pressures after new pump is installed. :D

I'll 2nd that, Cummins shop here asking $165 plus the pig if needed. $283 seems toooooooo high. :eek:

Well then I guess they are pretty close, because remember I am quoting in Canadian dollars which right now is about $. 66 US. So these guys aren't too far out.

If I'm not mistaken, the lift pump is covered by Cummins under their 100K mile warrany, not Dodge's. I also believe Dodge returns these dead pumps to Cummins and theu in turn deal directly with their supplier Bosch. Corrections????

Good luck!

Did my own at 40K paid around 170 for it, after installed in never dropped below 8psi Im at 47K now and at WOT i'm seeing 4psi, 10-12 psi at idle, post filter. Guess I'll be doing another as soon as I have time. With the minor mods to my truck and the hassle of the dealer I play the I'm my own warratee station game. I am due for a new BHAF from cummins so when I go to the local Cummins shop next week for that and a resupply of oil filters I'm going to see if they will give me any credit towards the new pump since I bougt the last one from them just a few months ago and I'm in their computer as having done so. I doubt they will do anyhting but if I get anywhere with that I'll let y'all know.

DC pays the tab for warranty repairs on our Cummins engines. They get such a deal when purchasing the engines they put in our trucks, Cummins will not honor warranty through their shops. Once in a while, when a DC dealer cannot locate a problem they can sublet the repair through a Cummins shop. The shop then has to bill the dealer and the dealer has to ask for payment through the DC warranty. Does that make sense about the way the warranty works to you?

Got mine replaced today at the dealer. Cost $0. Now my pressure at idle is 15 and wot at level 9 on my powermax is 7. Gotta see what the comp version and the DDIII's are gonna due to it. :D
