Hello All, well time for a new "Private Carter" lift pump! Cummins is quoting $185. 00 and Auto Value $241. 00!!! Does anyone offer the pump at a lower than these two prices? If so, can I ask who? Thanks. . TL

If you have a Cummins dealer near see if they will sell you #4932707 kit. It will have a newly released pump and some stuff you won't need. It's part of a recall campaign for emergency vehicles and busses and should only cost you about $70 with tax. If you price only the pump it will run about $160. When the campaign is over, only the pump will be available. I just bought the kit and the parts guy said they are getting scarce.

Private Carter

Ed, Brad, Thanks for the info, I called Eric and ordered a new pump... the updated version and he advised me to have the codes checked after expaining some of my issues. . Tom L

I just recently purcased a lift pumpfor $85. 00. I went to the local five star international dealer and gave them the campaign #. No questions asked.

LIft pump symptoms grow!

Well got my new lift pump and in the meantime had the dealer check codes... got the worst of them... p0216... injector pump timing failure! The vp44 is dying! Its still under warrenty... we'll see what the dealership comes up with next week when their diesel tech finishes his work... TL

Yeah, a FASS is actually cheaper than a Carter style lift pump. A FASS is $600. 00

The stock style (Carter) are $140. 00. And $140. 00. And $140. 00. And another $140. 00. And.....

TJ this will be the second LP and its not installed... first(original) is still on truck, making 12. 5 at idle and 8 at 70mph... . bought a second new one, intalled it. . found to be defective, removed it, then relocated orig back on frame in front of tank, done away with banjo's. . straight in/out fittings... started out 13-14 psi at idle, since its slowly dropping, felt it a good idea to get another... truck has 90m miles presently... but as in earlier post. . p0216 code, vp44 inj pump timing failure..... still under warrenty... TL

Lift Pump still working

Hey All, well Friday the dealer told me p0216 code. vp44 failing, Monday took it in, Tues new inj pump, warrenteed no questions, no problems. . just got the truck home tonight, now do I remove the old lift pump which is the original, rear mounted/still putting out 12. 5 psi/9 psi respectivly and replace it too, so new lift pump/new Inj pump to see who dies first at the second 100m miles... LOL... Thanks for all the replys... TL

02 2500 2wd,TD,at,91m miles,relocated lp at 60m by fuel tank.

I am getting good service out of factory lift pumps relocated in front of the tank. The truck has almost 150k on it and is on only the second pump! Not bad! I would highly recommend using the factory LP, but relocating it and using big lines and fittings... like the Vulcan kit does.

I decided to replace the working, but lower pressure LP with a new one combined with the new VP44. Now have 15 psi at idle and 12. 5 at 2100 free revs, will be driving it later to see what pressure is at road speed under load conditions. Also the new VP Inj pump got me 2 more mpg and no loss of power... ... . TL

JJ, perhaps you could go into detail more. My info is limited but its my understanding the vp44 failed when the engine mounted lp lost pressure or went below a given psi starving the vp for fuel, it was discovered by owners to re-locate the lp back by the tank, which I have done, the lp now functioned very well maintaining good psi numbers. Now the Factory is installing an in-tank pump which from other posts operates at 0-6 psi, not sure how these numbers are read or where, so is the new replacement vp44 now able to operate at lower fuel pressure(supply) and is high lift pump pressure going to cause the new vp44 grief? I have read where the late style lp's have had improvements too. Anyone have anything to ad here? What is the straight skinny on the issue? New vp44-low pressure lp in tank pump ok? New vp44 and high pressure rear mounted lp bad? TL
