If you have made it this far, at least your injector pump is good. The VP44 is designed to suck fuel if the lift pump dies. The good injector pumps survive, the bad ones leave you dead in the water.
Mine lift pump died, and I had good power yet. The real differece came at 2200 rpm. With a bad lift pump, she did not zoom off if you floored it, acted doggy and really no power above 2600rpm.
You can get a good fuel pressure test set at many parts stores or tool dealers for about $35. Just screw it into the top of the fuel filter housing for an easy check. The housing has pre-filter and post-filter test plugs.
