Hey I was thinking about ways to save weight on my truck to get some better times. Besides spare tire what else can I trim? I am going to keep a toolbox on there, but only an aluminum one w/ nothing in it. Is there fiberglass beds out there? What about just cutting out the inside of the bed? I would like to get my truck down to 6300 or so. Do yall take the seats out when you race?

Axe the seats,carpet, carpet pad, door panels, sound blocker, speakers, radio, glove compartment(lifts out), ash tray, overhead console(if you have one), jack, jack tools, dash bezel, those things can be removed and replaced in an afternoon. If you get serious you could also remove the headliner and sun visors(they're not bad).



Also remove any excess coolant, yank the washer fluid bottle, windshield wipers, wiper motors, yank the fuel tank and mount a 5-10 gallon fuel cell in your toolbox, pull the rear bumper, the cable box for the spare tire(4 bolts hold it to a sub-frame under the truck). Also you could pull the plastic wheel-well liners, the heater box, AC compressor, lines, condenser(sp?), ect...



There's still more but I think that you get the idea. Now most of this is getting extreme, but thats where it looks like you're headed.

You may want to check the class rules you plan to run in first... ... before you fire up the sawzall.

I usually remove the tailgate, hitch, spare tire, and rear seat to race. You can also remove one battery. Emptying all the extra fluids will help too. Basically removing much more than that for DHRA will take you out of the street class though.

Here's a thought. How about a 1/2 ton?They are already a lot lighter and the cummins will bolt in pretty easy. Still looks the same and not many people would know. Just a thought.

You can lose ALOT if you really want to. You just have to creative. But if you still want to drive it and be comfy... be careful!! My 94 reg cab 4x weighs 5800. That's with ladder bars, u-joint shields,loops, big pulling hitch,etc. Hello gas class!!! Rick, 6300 shouldn't be hard. My 98 reg cab 4x weighs about 6400, that's not stripped with a half tank of fuel.

I can see goin' that nuts on a lil 4 cylinder gutless gasser. But With the Torque numbers we generate removing ALL of that to save what 200 lbs of combined weight... . including the spare and tailgate????? Plus loosing the next day or so putting your truck back together.





I dunno maybee I am blind to it all being I have a roadracer mentality ... . not too much the 1/4 mile guy.

Then there are some of us who could go on a diet. I would think losing a few pounds would be better than removing headliner and visors.
