I had the same trouble with my "limited" slip. With one tire in wet grass and one on gravel and I couldn't move. I jacked one wheel up as outlined in the service manual and checked the torque on the LSD. It checked out. Dealer looked at it the same way I did and said it was ok. I asked him to explain why I couldn't move on a level surface. They jacked one wheel up and tried to move the truck on the concrete garage floor (one wheel in the air on the jack). No dice. Sat there spinning like an open differential. They replaced the clutch pack under warranty (30k) but the new pack isn't much better. Worked good initially but I think the modifier has worked into the pack now. I think a change of oil and less friction modifier is my next step. Maybe Amsoil.
Applying the brake when one wheel is spinning will help, even with an open differential. It causes more torque to go to both wheels, effectively increasing the torque available to the wheel with traction. It has nothing to do with the LSD.
My '95 gasser LS worked great. I think the weight of the Cummins might be part of the issue.
