I decided to see how well my rear limited slip worked on my 2011. I jacked up one side in the rear and put the truck in gear, it just spun the one tire. Unless it is an electric dif, it ain't working. What experience has anyone else had with the limited slips in these rears? Its a 2500 auto.

They are not clutch type units. In my humble opinion, they suck. Both wheels need to have some traction for them to work. They are a gear type unit, and work on torque applied to the diff assy to lock up. No traction on one of the wheels, no lock up.

It a Torsen type diff and uses gears instead of clutches. It needs some resistance on each wheel to engage (light braking will do). Then you'll launch off your jack stand.

All I can offer is anecdotal stories but my truck goes pretty good up my fathers steep gravel driveway so it works by the seat of the pants feeling and the gravel I see moved in the rear view mirror. I have driven different trucks up this driveway with open center differentials and one side spins like hell.

They have been this way for years, if one wheel starts to spin, let off the throttle for a split second, then it will lock up, I had this issue in my 05 on one steep icy road all the time, it isn't a problem.

I don't think it's a problem, I would just like to not have to get off the throttle when I'm accellerating. If possible I would probably like to boost through shifts too, but that's not good for anything.

I put the truck on a twisted incline so that the left rear had little traction and tried the suggestions. First a little brake- no improvement. Then i tried letting off the pedal and back on. Always same results, only spins one back tire.

I have posted several times on the methods the dealers are to use to check for operation. Search and you should be able to find one. It takes a pretty good brake application to get it to lock in the method you are trying. You have to slow the spinning wheel almost to a stop it not completely.

A Torsen (short for "TORque SENsing") differential requires torque to be applied through it before the limited slip function will work. Static testing by jacking up one wheel and spinning it by hand is meaningless with a Torsen differential, although it would work on spring-loaded clutch-type differentials.

I have no complaints with my 2011, and it's a 2WD truck.

Rusty, I spun mine with the motor and only one wheel spun. I aplied the brakes and only one wheel spins I haven't been able to get both tires to spin when i needed them.

Depending on what you are using the truck for, an after market locker may be what you should install, there are a lot of differential shops out there to assist you
