The only bad thing here in So. Cal. is that there arent that many CB shops readliy available. At least looking in the yellow pages there arent.

At least not like there were a few years ago.

Hmmm... Interesting observations like ice being knocked off the antenna, engines shutting down, dash lights illuminating. I'm not sure I'd want to be repeatedly exposed to that much power - you know with your head only a couple of feet away from the tip of the antenna...

I was told that radio interfearance issues were handed down to the local govt level to be handles by them.

This would mean there's an EXTREMELY small chance of getting in trouble for an amp.

That's not to say go do what you want, aggrivate the hams on their freq's etc.

I've always stayed well away from the 28MhZ area.

Now I think they have the 12 meter band too.

I have very rarely heard of anyone getting in trouble.

Most of the guys that get in trouble... are running a load of power... in town... and from a base station. I have seen (and heard) of very few people getting into trouble running even extremely high power (say 1600 watts plus) from a mobile because it doesn't annoy anyone for very long since you are usually "moving".

I know of on guy who has been in trouble (and in jail) because of illegal radios... and he asked for it.

Oh, and to bring this back up... here is another option: try looking into another radio.

I am currently running a Connex 3300HP (12watt/44watt) which has been nothing but awesome, buuuuuuuttttttt... I'm looking at either a Connex 4600 turbo (50watt/150watt), a Galaxy DV95ST (50watt/150watt), or a Cobra 200GTL (30watt/100watt). I have heard a Magnum S9 (45 watt), but they have a poor track record as in they are not durable. All of these radios run internal amps... I'll probably go with the 4600 since I like my 3300HP. Even though it is a smaller radio, the Cobra sounds really good and strong.

Now do not get me wrong, they are pricey:

Cobra 200GTL: $225

Connex 4600HP: $450

Galaxy 95ST: $490

Its 205 watts not 600 or 800 watts ,there killer radios :-laf i have a nice talker did you checkout the site yet ?

205 Watts from a "radio" IS a "KILLER RADIO", best you can get out of a dual final radio like General Lee, Connex 3300 & up, & Galaxy's is near 90 swinging with a set of matched motorola finals (try finding a set of those anymore  )

The only way you will get to 600-800 watts is with a good 4pill, 2 driving 4, or 8 pill. ;)

I checked out the site as well as several others. I think I'm going to first see if I can pick one up used... I saw one a week ago for $260 (insert a picture of me kicking myself in the butt).

There is a site (and shop) in DE that has them for $460 new (4600 turbo)... although there was a 95ST for $389 on another site too.....

I'm pretty much set on buying either a 95ST or 4600 turbo... I sorta partial to the Connex radios though... .

I don't know what Radioactive's price is, but Pacetronics has the new Connex 4600 Turbo for $369. 99. My plan is to get one from there and then have a local shop tune it. Pacetronics has got the best prices I've seen - good place to buy linears too.

Here's the link to the 4600:

I got my wires crossed... $365 to my door peaked and tuned from DE... and that is a second price listed by Pace... I just looked at them for $430.

I assume most of you are unaware that all of this is a felony here in the United States. If the proper government agencies were to move on you with such activities the damage to you, your home and your families would not be worth all the "10-4" good buddy non sence you are perpetuating.

I am fully aware of all the communications laws in this country.

I hardly ever chime in but, stand forwarned fellow diesel heads.

No flames, I won't responde.

Close but not exactly correct.

I have talked to the local FCC office regarding amps on 11 meter, and they told me they are not enforcing any of the book laws due to the simple fact they don't have time to do so. Its almost like an unregulated area in the radiowave bandwidth. 2 meter, 10 meter and a few others however they are watching more closely.

The FCC has absolutly no interest in anyone in mobiles with amps. To hard to enforce, and no reason to do so since mobiles rarely are called upon for complaints. Now maybe if you have a 10,000 watt home unit in your apartment, and you have a sloppy set up so you are comng in on everyone's TV and computers, then you might get a visit by them. But throwing you in jail for this is a pretty slim chance.

Even though there are some idiots on the 11 meter band, I have actually found it very useful during my monthly commutes on I40 between Barstow and Arizona. I know where every Cop is hiding behind a pile of dirt mound, or behind a offramp looking to fill his quota rather than assist motorists. Also, I've met some very nice people on 11 meter.

I'm sure you feel the same about those that remove CATS and other smog devices, those that use every single loophole to avoid paying taxes, and I'm sure you never speed on the highway and always drive the posted speed limit, etc...

You are providing mis-information. Do as you wish, your wallet will become aware of your misjudgment if you are lucky. I really don't care what you do, I'm only providing accurate information for discriminating indaviduals who will stand forwarned. It is a felony to "own" a RF amplifer capabel of operating above 24 MHz. It is a felony to operate one unless you have the proper credentials. It is "always" a felony to operate an RF amplifier in the 11 meter spectrum know as "CB" in the United States.

I am stating facts regardless of your opinions.

If some government agencies wish to persue you along these lines you will lose.
